To answer the OP's question:

The same reason that Walt Disney movies make people believe that lions and bears wanna sing and dance with us and not eat us.

From that famous, but little known, deleted "Yummy Nummy" song and dance scene from Disney's Jungle Book that'll tug at your heart strings....

Mowgli asks: "WHAT'S FOR DINNER???"

If the act doesn't involve violence but only speech, then it's not terrorism. It's only the practice
of freedom of speech, wheter it incites to violence or not.

Hazy :2cool:

Really?

I suggest you could test it yourself. With less than speech - by reading. Consulting certain sites on the Internet will get you on the no flight list in 3 2 1.... seconds. Some Google searchers even got a complimentary SWAT team at home. And yes there are laws about it.

With the hate filled arguments, extreme views, outlandish remarks, farleft views, and denial tactics used its impossible to imagine any serious negotiations being held with officials coming from those who would hold these types of beliefs. It hurts their cause beyond repair and not recognizing that is a huge failure.

Those that adhere to those beliefs do not represent me as a smoker or vapor by any means.

Isn't the OP's question; Why does the for the children argument work so well for politicians?

The simplest answer is that we all care or should about out children and are willing to
do anything or vote anything into law that we think does the job of protecting our children.

Perhaps the more appropriate question is why does the public not research the truth in the politicians statements instead of being swept away
by the pseudo-compassion of the politicians.
The answer(s): Propaganda, subliminal suggestion, and false advertizing.
You can add beer and TV to that.

Who are politicians selling to, in short, who hires them?

That's right, just as it should be. I take it your familiar then.

And implying that somebody is akin to Hitler or Stalin, especially because they argue the cause of freedom,
not for one clique but for everybody, is precisely that
an ad-hominem used because the argument holds no water.

Hazy :2cool:

Nope, that would be a "Reductio ad Hitlerum" thing - if I were to compare the oponent with such persona. Which didn't happen.

It doesn't count until the police actually beat someone.

Well, I seem to recall, wayyyyyyyyyyyy back in the thread, Hazy saying he nearly got shot by cops, for picking up a stainless Vamo on his own property. That seems fairly radical to me.

You're not paying attention to what you write? "reductio ad nonsense, man."
The bottom line is your argument holds no water in a free society.
Therefore you chose to compare your antagonist(s) to Hitler, Stalin, ETC.
by implication as well as insinuation yours was/is an ad hominem.

Dude (ette) have some caramel juice and poutine. You need it :)

You're not paying attention. It was suggested that "strong leaders" should be those making calls about whom gets the "terrorist" label and are subsequently executed/murdered. I pointed out that "strong leaders" tend to be dictators.

The major problem with that is that it is not the gov't's job to protect the children; it is the childrens' PARENTS' job! The gov't is supposed to protect all of us from those who would encroach on our liberty, but instead THEY encroach on our liberty trying to protect us from ourselves! That is just WRONG! That is not what we elected them to do, and any of them who think it is, are in the wrong business, and need to be unseated, impeached, dismissed, with all speed.

The ONLY people I would say that have any right at all to try and protect us from ourselves might be the clergy -- and church and state are supposed to be kept separate, it says so right in the Constitution -- so why is the gov't trying to do it?!?

Hi Andria!
The difference is that the cops weren't gonna shoot me because I was vaping.
Rather they mistook my VAMO for a piece.
I can understand their perspective though I didn't necessarily like it.
Moreover, I was taking a hit. What? Were were they going to shoot me so that I couldn't shoot myself?
But in context to the discussion, it doesn't apply.
The police, whom I called rather than capping an obnoxious neighbor,
weren't there to enforce an anti vaping ordinance or to shoot me because they don't like maple pecan juice.

Their action was based on ignorance and self preservation.
Again, the thing does look a lot like the barrel of my .38

Regards,
Hazy :2cool:
