Why does the screw thing at the bottom of my tank get black after use?

I'm going in a different direction from the above answers.

It's not unusual for small amounts of e-liquid to accumulate within the 510 connection and center pin. Over time, that e-liquid can accumulate with random dirt and dust to look dark or black.

A routine cleaning with a Q-Tip and some isopropal alcohol to the area works to remove it.

Good Point. Could be either or a combination of both
