Electrical arcing. You could use some dielectric grease but the solution might be worse than the problem.
The “screw thing” is your positive electrical connection. If it’s not making good contact it will arc. This is bad btw. Might want to unscrew it just a bit to lengthen the pin.
I'm going in a different direction from the above answers.
It's not unusual for small amounts of e-liquid to accumulate within the 510 connection and center pin. Over time, that e-liquid can accumulate with random dirt and dust to look dark or black.
A routine cleaning with a Q-Tip and some isopropal alcohol to the area works to remove it.

This reminds me the issue of Goon25 rda in black color.Is your Atty black colored?Is the 510 trhead(screw) half painted black half stainless steel?Like this?
See the difference?The black version has a part of 510 plated in black.During use this deteriorates and junks the whole trhead.

Yep...I think that every possibility has been covered but honestly it's just tarnishing whether it's caused or made worse by the passing electrons doesn't really matter much. It is helpful to give it a clean from time to time
