Because...wait, why would you want to do that?

There are box mods that are mechs (Reo) in the sense that they deliver battery voltage only, but almost all of them (box mods) are chipped. I think most people that want mechanical devices want them wholly mechanical and that would be fairly hard to do in anything other than a tube form factor.

Comes down to functional and design considerations. Switchgear that can handle big mech loads is different from the switchgear that is ideal for running FET switches (as on regulators). So the best solution is as mentioned having a de facto "pass through" mode on the board, which works but is usually limited to the output amperage of the board.
