Why I'm Still Using A Vision Spinner Over MOD / APVs

It's interesting isn't it. I had 2 Provaris. I was sure I didn't like it, then a year later I thought maybe I was missing something so I got another one. I noticed that I am using 2.4-2.5ohm delivery devices on top, and then noted that I am usually setting it to 3.7-3.8v.

That means that a big mod is sort of "wasted" on me. I am truly a low voltage vaper.

My favorite battery is this little 2-something inch joyetech upgrade battery that is not VV but that you can set to 2 different modes, I like the 4.1v setting, and it goes down from there as the battery depletes. I could have about 10-15 of them in a pile an be happy. The first hour of vaping on one of those is just perfect for me.

BUT, I like box shaped stuff, and bottom feeders, since they don't roll......so I got a REO. I put 1.7ohm on there and can vape away at about 7-8 watts if I want. But usually that is way too strong for me, so I would go down to about 5 watts with a higher ohm delivery device.

These are things you just do not know about yourself when you start vaping, and which is WHY I always recommend to any new vaper to just get an ego twist or vision spinner, because you are going to find your "sweet spot" using that cheap simple VV device.

And you may find that you don't even NEED VV, or don't even NEED high wattage vaping, so why would you want to pay almost $200 or even $50+ for that?

And I would say this is definitely true for vapers who vape fruity delicate stuff. No way you are going to be vaping fruits at 8-10 watts LOL

Of course when advising a newbie, they don't know what they like to vape yet, so you can't figure that out yet.

Of course, tobacco vapers and heavy desserts are gonna require a higher watt vape, they just taste better that way usually.

And, a Spinner or Twist is never going to be wasted $. Why? Because they will either become your "backups" if you end up moving on to a mod, or, you will give them to a friend or family member to get them started vaping. And they're only gonna cost you $25 each or less. :)

I just think it is really jumping to conclusions that everyone is going to want a mod or vape strong. I jsut gave my optometrist an NON VV ego, and a crappy CE4 to get started that I had laying around........guess what? She has quit stinkies on them, I asked her if she wants to explore better stuff.....nope, she LOVES her setup. Total cost would have been about $40-50 with clearos, battery and juice if she had bought this stuff.

Note: I have been vaping 1.5 years.

I hear what you are saying but doesn't it also matter what topper you are using? I mean I started my Vision Spinners with CE5s (Vision V3s to be specific) and I was a rock solid 3.8v vaper. However over time I started to increase this to 4.0 - 4.2 - 4.4 - 4.6 and now sit at 4.8 for the same device and eJuice flavors.

Well, let me back up... I'll take a really awesome strawberry eJuice I love. When I fill the CE5 I start out at 4.8 but by 1/2 empty it's at 4.2 and it then goes lower as the level drops.

It's my understanding that an RBA or RDA can wick far better and there for take an increase in power without it drying out too fast and becoming burnt. So wouldn't it matter what topper you use to impact and determine what power setting you use?

I know it "can" be done but was recommended by vapers I know and this forum to not do it on a ego style battery. I mean, yes a 1.8 ohm topper is a 1.8 ohm topper but my understanding is the batteries don't really produce a constant output as a MOD / APV can and if something shorts you run a greater risk of killing your battery.

I could be way off but that's the advice I was given when my original post in the RBA Section was "could I" with my spinners.

No problem...if you don't already have a Multi Meter for a quick atty check I can see your point. It's nice that many of the VW/VV mods out there have one built in for you.

If you have a Multi Meter...go ahead and grab yourself a small RBA, a box of surgical cotton, and some 28 or 30ish AWG Kanthol for easy to make and rewick micro coils if you think you'd like to give that a try. While a cisco spec pre-made dripping atty is really hard to beat...an RBA will pay for itself in a few short months (if you don't mind the process of rewicking and occasionally winding a new coil).

You can certianly make a nice tasting, vapor making, current safe coil within the limitations of the EGO Twist. 10 - 13 wraps of 28 on a 1/16 inch jig with a cotton wick should put you well in a safe range, and would be a sweet 4 - 10 watt vape. Really nice on the fruits and clear/clean tobacco flavors.

From here, you can also use that same material to rewind Pro Tanks and Vivi Novas if interested. (I use 32 - 34 AWG for this, but the bigger/lower resistance stuff can still work with a little bigger jig and fewer wraps).

Yes, I'm one of those people who believe the quality of the topper is the most important thing.

Other stuff, we are talking about battery holders w/different bells and whistles.

There are differing philosophies on this, and that is the "camp" I am in. :)

Why is that? I mean my wife vapes with her Spinner and I know she would not use a mod / apv at all. She likes her CE5s and the size of the spinner 600mAh is perfect for her.

I vape on a vv between 4.2 and 4.5v. The spinner was just more convienent, could vape at the same power with the same tank.

Although after receiving a new Reo Grand last night the lavatube is a ohm meter, the spinner is my new backup. I absolutely love this thing.

Picky People Pick Peter Pan

So, if Peter Pan stopped production, would they all give up peanut butter?

Choosy People Choose Jiff. I prefer being choosy. I can live with my choices. I can even Choose to try Skippy by skippy.:D

You're going to end up with a mech anyway.. You might as well just make the jump and get on the best vape available now.
Buy a REO Grand and an RM2 and be done with it....
Have faith, the journey is easy and fun.
I wish someone had given me this advise when I was where you are...

I could throw my REO out the window of the car I am sitting in now, watch it get run over by 3 trucks, then submerge it in a sink to rinse it off, dab it with a paper towel to dry it off and then get a better vape than 99% of the devices out there..

That's not my 2c, that right there, that's a fact.
I can re wick it with .01 of a cents worth of cotton ball, re coil and re wick in 2 mins and be set for days ( weeks) ?
If that doesn't appeal, well..

I dunno.
Good luck with your decision.

Okay, I've been vaping for a little while now and love it. No more negative smells, ash, insane costs, negative chemicals etc. Weapon of choice (at the moment) are 2 1300mAh Vision Spinners. Why? Because I can't find what I want and really don't think it's obtainable - sigh

I want to get into RBAs and know it isn't the best idea to do so with ego style batteries. So I need a MOD / APV. Okay, fine but I can't find one that I like. Call me too picky or say I'm asking for the moon. That's fine but I don't think what I want to be unreasonable at all. I mean we are so far past where we stood as a community / industry from just a few years ago.

Please, you must be joking you say... well let' see if you can find one that fits the bill.

What I want in a MOD / APV - and good luck!

• Protected MOD / APV - while there are many that love and have mechanical devices I'm not ready. I want a protected device to make the move from simple ego style to a MOD / APV with less concern over battery issues. This is not a thread to talk about how safe mechs are... I just want a protected device. This does not include mechs with separate fail safe fuses.

• Threads for both 510 and ego - while I could get an adapter why should I? I use 510 and ego threaded stuff, have a ton of parts and heads and blah blah blah... it needs both. Yes, there is a lot to be said about using an adapter to get what you want or to save your 510 threads but that just brings me to my next bullet point.

• Build Quality - I don't like the idea of some China Made devices being talked about as it might come to you perfect or it might not. The device might be good for a day, week, month or who knows but then again you get what you pay for. No, if it is made and sold it should be made with quality IMO. So may people have talked about the Vamo being a great device but in the same breath talk about it being all over the range of quality that it turned me off.

• Looks - oh boy, here we go. Since this is different for everyone let me jut tell you what I think looks sexy. Lavatube v2.0 or v2.5 (bodies are the same), eVic, Wizard Evolved and the Wizard Apprentice Evolved as SS is fine for me and a few others. Oh, and the Tree of Life looks amazing. There are others to but this should be a fair cross section.

• Multi-Button Controls - I don't like the single button for fire, menu, adjustments, etc as fond on the Zmax and others. I want a three button system or like the eVic where the fire button is separate from the adjustment ring.

• Back to Treads - I don't want to worry that my threads are going to pop off, no longer work, get jacked up from one RBA to a carto etc. The soft threads statement makes me really nervous.

• Size - Would still like the option of not having to carry a backpack to just have my mod with me. I mean if the Lavatube V2.5 had both 510 and ego threads I would be 98% sold (damn it looks sexy) but it is still really large / thick (that's what she said). eVic seems to be an okay size but sick of hearing about the treads being so weak and power limits... and I would like to use 18650s... on to my next bullet point.

• Power Limits - I don't currently do sub ohms but still think a device should be able to put out enough power to handle it. I mean if a cheap Vamo can then why can't a more expensive device like an eVic?

• Cost - I'm willing to spend $80.00 - $100.00 for the device. So this puts me in the range of the Lavatube and eVic (80ish for unit or 100ish for a basic kit). I think the eVic when all said and done was around $135.00 (kit + extra battery + charger). The Lavatube was around $125.00 I think when all said and done. This is because I want at least 2 2000mAh+ batteries and a charger so the kit didn't work for me cost wise. It was better to get the body + 2 18650s and a charger as the kit's case, carto tank and eJuice didn't matter to me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evolution of My Frustration:

Vamo V3 : cheap and powerful unit. So why not? It's large with the 18650s and I have no idea of the quality that it will be when I get it (based on many many many reviews I've seen). It also don't compare to the looks of others but isn't horrible.

Lavatube V2.5 : sexy device but for them to come out with the V2 and then the V2.5 and still not offer ego threads kind of turns me off. Then the size issue is a kind of a negative to me as well.

eVic : I though I was sold on this but the power limit and very weak threads are turning me off.

SIGH

Again, call me picky or say I'm asking for the moon but I love to vape but have no desire to collect a million different devices just because nothing fits the bill. There should be something out there that offers these mainstream things IMO. I guess I just needed to vent... thanks for listening... well, reading I mean lol

Kevin

No offense but it sounds like you want a Lamborghini for the price of a toyota camry. You will need to save up and be patient. The industry is still young (and relatively small) and before this year, there weren't even half as many mods as there are now. 2014 will introduce just as much if not more new mods than were introduced this year, but you will need to be prepared to pay more than 80 dollars. Start saving now and I'm sure something will eventually strike your fancy. When that finally happens, you should be able to afford it.

Your post leads me to believe that what I want IS out there. I don't think I'm looking for a Lamborghini for a Toyota at all... I mean, if I was ...... I couldn't get a Wizard Evolved for $80.00 then you would be correct but even that damn sexy device doesn't equal all the things I was looking for.

Now, let's just stop the silly talk for a second and clear it up... if I could get a Wizard Evolved for $80.00 then my list would go out the window in about .0542 seconds lol but that isn't what my op was about. I also don't think getting a device, 2 bats and charger for 140-150.00 means we should accept it failing within a very short period of time (ie the threads).

Just my opinion

You must be pretty on your devices!! I still have some devices from almost 3yrs ago that have pristine threads... In fact I have never stripped any threads on any device I have owned!! That also might have something to do with the majority of my devices are mechanical's and have 510 threading only... Haven't really used anything ego threaded in probably a couple of years.

I have 2 setups I use daily that only cost around $143.00 +shipping... for both...

Smoktech Natural $39.99
Smoktech RSST $19.49
AW IMR 18350 x2 $14.00
AG-126 2 bay charger $9.99
Total $83.47

Ikarus Hybrid 2.1 $44.99
AW IMR 18350 x2 $14.00
Total $58.99

Have you checked out the Smoktech Ace? Madvapes has the for $50 and you can build a kit with them. I have not personally used one but seems like a good fit, again I do not know anything about the durability ect. Also I am not affiliated with the said vendor but have purchased from them several times with great results.

Kinda looks like a combo between a Vamo, SID, and the Evic. Didn't Smoktech learn with V/Zmax failures???

Agreed. Failure within months for anything you spend money on without being classified as "disposable" is unacceptable. However, we do have to understand that the manufacturing process for most of these new companies is still in its infancy. Valid excuse? No, but it's the way things work. The same can be said for any emerging business and some that have been around for years. QC is going to improve and we will all find those devices that just seem to keep operating like new.

I don't think its ridiculous in the least to hold out for something that suits you best. I am currently operating a Protank II on top of Vision Spinners as well. I have no problem with it and think it's a great vape. I found myself empathetic toward your situation since I just got done with my decision. I found there were so many choices (which should be a good thing), but those choices were all flawed in some way, described in length by the first 12 pages of Google results for each device. It definitely makes the decision difficult, but not impossible. At some point I realized ... I'm not going to spend my life savings on a mod, so if it breaks, it just breaks. I'll replace and carry on.

I did decide on ordering the Vamo V5 due to the cost as compared to others. This will be my first mod and I feel it more than meets what I want for my own personal experience. If the threads wear out, I may move to something a little sturdier, but for now it seems the Vamo is unsurpassed in features for the money. I weighed a lot of options, but like you could not justify more than around $60 for a mod with the assorted problems they are almost all guilty of.

I will rest easy knowing that if the Vamo lasts me for 6-8 months, that's 6-8 months closer that we will be to these issues being hashed out. It has and will continue to be a gamble ... You spend money to be a Beta tester at this point in the game is the way I see it. Don't overspend and keep your expectations of new technology realistic. You will be satisfied with something eventually. If you can't find something comfortable, don't buy. Just remember, if you do buy, enjoy what you get to its fullest and be prepared to upgrade or replace as needed. The market is saturated with choices. You'll find something.

Best of luck. Happy Vaping!

Very well put. Thank you for taking the time to share your well thought out opinion. It grounded me and kind of opened my eyes to the same things I said about my spinners... if they die I'll just replace them.

Santa ended up making the choice for me and brought me a ton of stuff... all working great and having fun building my own coils on a RBA and a RDA.

Thanks again to everyone that read my venting post and responded with ideas and support.

I'm glad my opinion was at least helpful in a way. That's great that you've discovered your next avenue! I'm glad you found a way to move forward. PBusardo put it best ... It's a journey and not everyone will or perhaps should take the same path. Tastes and interests are so different, it would be ridiculous to follow anyone's suggestions rather than just taking the plunge toward something that interests you.

Again, glad to hear the good news!

Just bite the bullet and spend the extra money on a provari. You will not care about your other requirements, that the provari does not have/meet, once you have one. I was in the same position as you are when I was in the market. Wanted different buttons for menus and settings, Oled, VW, etc. After tons of research, I finally decided that performance was more important than options. And I'll tell you, I am more than satisfied with my decision. Worth every penny. Check out the link and pay special attention to the charts.

How do you know your satisfied without having tried a device with three buttons, an OLED screen and VV/VW?

I don't have to try a device that has that stuff to know I'm satisfied. Would that stuff be nice to have? Yes. But IMO, the performance outweighs those unnecessary features. I have used a zmax and thought it was great until I got my provari. Dont get me wrong, its still a good mod. But if I had never gotten the provari, I would not have known what the zmax was missing in performance. That pretty much is true for almost all china mods as nearly all of them use the same chip. I am curious about the DNA20 though. From what I have been reading it sounds like its performance is similar to the provari. Might be something worth looking into.

I think the DNA 20 is a bit over hyped, it can't do VV and it can't go below 7 watts. I often vape lower than 7 watts, I'm hoping the DNA 30 (if this is what it's to be called) will at least resolve the lower wattage shortcoming.

I don't think three buttons is unnecessary, I actually believe the opposite. OLED is nice but not a necessity, I bet in 2014 we will see color screens on APVs. Just think, you can play vapetris or watch coil building tutorials on your mod...:what:

Thanks for the recommendation but as stated in the post I made just before yours I already got my new PV. It is the eVic (and a ton of other stuff) and to be honest I'm in love. It performs amazing with my new RDAs, RBAs, clearomizers, cartos, etc. Love the size, feel, functions and performance.

I know those that have a Provari love it, recommend it and in some cases push it down people's throats (lol) as if there is nothing else on the market that even compares to it. I've even seen a number of threads here on ECF where Provari owners basically call everyone stupid for not buying one and take a very elitist approach to talking / recommending the Provari.

To be honest I'm not really a fan of the device and how it looks and if I am going to enter into that price point I'd go a different direction. I' not saying the Porvari is bad in any way other than for me and my taste. I know it's built very well and performs great. Just my 2 cents.

Wish I would have caught this thread earlier as I would have recommended an Innokin VV V3 with extra rivets. I've got 2 of them and love them to death. Also have an MVP but I don't like taking that one out of the house. Plus adjusting VV/VW is kind of a pain since one button is for VV and the other is for VW, and it just goes up until it round robins.

But the eVic is also a very solid device, and I'm not surprised you love it. Will probably pick one up myself eventually, but for now my VVs and MVP are doing just peachy. :)
