Tahlequah, Ok
Thanks for all the great info guys I'm behind on answering questions so here goes. I've triied him on new cartos and ones I've topped off a couple of times. Did I forget to mention he has asthma? He only uses a rescue inhaler in the winter and not often. You guys have given me some other avenues to try, so thanks. Hopefully this will help others experiencing these issues as well.

I know this might sound silly, with all the good advice that has been given, but menthol. I was a 2 pack a day smoker. And when I first started vaping with my DSE 901 auto, menthol really soothed my lungs. I was smoking for 20 years. It's just a thought. My analogs were Marb lights. I only smoked menthol when I had a cold. So it's not like there were normal for me. But with the e cig menthol was soothing to my throat and lungs. If someone has not already said it, make sure to drink lots of water or intake fluids as a newbie too. :)

Sometimes it takes a little while to get used to using a pv have him try and take smaller puffs also he might need to go down on the nic. level.
I heard that analog cigarettes have a chemical in them that numbs your throat. The e-liquid doesn't have those chemicals in them and that could be why it's harsh to him.
He should be able to use a pv it just might take some time to get used to it.

I'm fairly new to vaping, and manual batteries have been a life saver for me. The automatic batteries didn't work for me. They don't kick in fast enough that I can get a decent amount of vapor from a mouthful, and if I inhale directly into my lungs, it feels like I'm going to cough up my pancreas. I've got manual batteries now, and I hold it near my mouth, press the button for a second or two, which lets the heat build up a bit, draw the vapor into my mouth, release the button, then draw in outside air as I inhale into my lungs. It sounds more complicated than it is, but it's how I manage to not cough on the PV.

I do have some flavors that don't make me cough, but they don't list the PG/VG content. I'm going to try contacting the vendor and see if I can find out. There are places that let you specify your own mix, if I can find my sweet spot, I think I'll be much happier.

I have asthma too. And though I didn't smoke menthol analogs I did have good luck with mint flavored juices. I don't see an issue with higher nicotine juices (me personally), I just have a problem with certain flavors. All these pages of advice is good. Slow inhaling, inhaling into the mouth first, different atomizer to burn cooler, different mixes of the juice PG/VG, etc.
Some people do have allergic reactions to PG, but since he has asthma he'd probably know if that was happening. Other people are sensitve to it, not allergic. Those symptoms vary. Even if he isn't sensitive or allergic as Jolly Roger said earlier, vaping takes some getting used to.
BTW - as an fyi kind of thing. I don't know who sells clove flavoring but natural cloves have a numbing effect and I have seen clove flavor mixed into some flavors of juice. I have not been brave enough to try them yet but others may have and can give better advice.
^^^Manual batteries are a good place to start and Scott describes a good technique to try

I also have asthma, and am new to vaping. I cough every time, no matter which was I inhale it. The thing that seems to work for me, weird as it sounds, is chewing gum while vaping. Is seems counter-intuitive since I would never chew gum whilst smoking; but, it works. I can only guess that it's something to do with extra saliva production since the e-cigs tend to dry out your throat and mouth on a hit. I'm sure it's something my body will likely adjust to, bot for now gum helps nearly 100%.
