PP wants my SSN for some reason now... something to do with some new IRS tax law for online transactions.
WTF!!!!! Hopefully you're not being scammed. I've yet to give ANY on-line site my SSAN... never will!

Had a few emails supposedly from PP asking for too much info. Never responded and I'm still using PP with a bitter taste for some of their policies.

If asked for your SSAN...

"Please provide us with your tax ID number. Your tax ID number lets us send you Form 1099-K, as required by the IRS under certain conditions. Find more information about the new tax rules and why we need your tax ID at www.paypal.com/irs. "

this is what they claim they need my SSN for..... I'll just hold out until they actually do something about it.

TO BE CLEAR: the message above is on my main PP page(it would be the worlds best Phishing page I've seen if it's not my actual PP main page).... they did send me an email, but, I have to log in to enter my SSN/proceed. I'm %100 it's "legit". (not that I agree with the IRS being involved in my PP transactions)

To be sure, I'm going to give those A holes a call tomorrow.

If I had leadership traits, I'd start a boycott PP type event... as it is right now, I can't even get myself to boycott them.
Props to those who have closed their accounts due to PP policies(politics, legal obligations, etc-- whatever the reason was)

As far as I know PayPal NEVER asks for your ssn. That sounds like a true scam. Let me ask you this. Did you click on the link they provided you or did you go into pp yourself ie: bookmarked or typing pp url into address bar? If you clicked on link provided very well could be a scam. And yes hackers/identity thief's make the pages look real, that's how they get away with getting information from smart ppl, it looks legit... I would actually call them and ask.

Did the email you received have your name in it or did it say something like "Dear Paypal member"?

yes, it has my name in it.
it was sent from service@paypal.com

there is no direct link to PP... it tells me to log on. (vs. "click this link", that's how the phishing sites work)

I'm pretty sure it's really from PP. I've received and sent money since, my balance is good, and there is still money in my bank account linked to PP.

vikki- I've read all about the phishing scams(not saying I'll never be had tho).... I always type www.paypal.com or www.chase.com etc. in the address bar. And yeah, I'm going to call and talk to one of the Filipino/Indonesian ladies tomorrow.(no offense intended to anyone)

thanks for the concerns about SSN involved scam... I'm not going to give it to them(PP or scammer) until they threaten to close my account, in which case, I'll cash out and close.

Iffy-- scammed by PP? or a scammer?

lol, no not in DC... and not against capatilism.

I'll never be scammed again after going to Senegal to meet the son of King Mustaffa, to retrieve the sacred diamonds since the mighty King was apparently imprisoned and needed an American to claim the diamonds so they can be returned to him. That trip was a major buzzkill. (lol, joking obviously)

Keep seeing this stipulation in the classifieds. Can I ask why? Is it to avoid issues with 18+ sales?

Yep, I believe you're right. I work on the broadcast side. Big media companies don't allow ecig TV or radio ads. There are ways around it. Ads are on the air but it's scary ground for broadcast and other media. If you call a network and ask to run an ecig commercial the answer is no. If you buy distressed airtime from a large media buyer or use other less-conventinal media-buy methods the ad will probably air without issue... until there is :)

Holy and wholly s**t!!! This is beyond my red blooded American, USAF Ret (20 years, Nam vet '67-'68), non-smokin' and 'tired of da s**t' tolerance. If this is true, eff 'em all...

Guess my PP purchases will be the ol' fashion way, USPS MO. That's how I bought all my ammo...
