Why should I care about vapor production?

I have been vaping for about a month now (and not a single analog for about 3 weeks). During that time I have learned a tremendous amount (mostly thanks to this wonderful forum). But there is one very simple concept I have yet to figure to out.

Why should anyone care about vapor production? A whole lot of the discussion around comparing various e-cigs, juices, etc. talk about how much vapor is produced (or not). I can't figure out what vapor production brings to the table.

Throat hit and taste are two criteria that are important to me. But aside from visual effect I haven't been able to discern any practical difference between a high vapor vape and a low vapor vape. What am I missing? In fact, if anything, I would expect less vapor to be a benefit for stealth vaping purposes or just in general avoiding any anti-smoking attention.

So please help me figure out this (hopefully) last newbie question I have. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

And I apologize if this has already been addressed elsewhere. I strongly expect that it has. But I could not come up with the search criteria to find it.

I think this is a perennial question. The short answer is: some people care about it, some don't.

Some that care simply want the visible clouds, as it adds to their experience. Some, like me, don't care about (and would prefer not to have) visible clouds -- but find that a feeling of fullness in the lungs seems to accompany vapor production. I really like that fulness. For me, I get it fine with 20%vg bases. People that want more clouds generally use a higher % of cg.

I care somewhat about the amount of vapor, otherwise I could have gotten a nicotine patch and walked around "smoking" a pen. I have seen some youtube videos though where the person demonstrating the e-cig disappears behind a wall of vapor. I don't need that much. I didn't like that much smoke when I smoked. But I think it would bother me if there was hardly any vapor at all.

Most of those Youtube videos are ... creatively lit, such that the vapor appears a lot thicker than it actually is.

When I was in my first couple of weeks in, I did pull a cheech&chong mo net with my 510Mega, my wife was in the car, she was still smoking at that time, and it bothered her. We were sitting out front of our church about to go in, and I decided to do some chain vaping before I went in(my wife and I are in charge of the Kids service downstairs, all of the adults are upstairs, don't really want to be vaping in the kids department while they are there) so I was doing some serious chain vaping I think I had just gotten my first batch of ALL VG so I was enjoying the vapor production, but you couldn't see! I felt like I was in high school again!

I'm almost 5 months into this now, and at first the only thing I cared about was TH. I wanted to FEEL it; didn't really care if I SAW it. Then when I changed to the MEGA carts/atty, I found that increased vapor production just came along with the extra power. And I liked it, especially when showing off my eGo to people considering making the switch from analogs to e-cigs. I can only imagine the clouds this thing would produce if I decided to use more of a VG-based juice, but then I might not get that throat hit anymore...

I demonstrated my Riva 510 loaded with a 100% VG juice to a couple of friends today. They both smoke , one has a Njoy that she's not at all impressed with. When they saw the huge cloud of vapor, their eyes lit up and they both said "Wow, that's a lot of smoke!". Maybe they'll try a PV and cut down on the cigs. Personally, I don't really care about a lot of vapor. Hard to stealth vape an VG juice.

I agree with you completely. I think some new vapers confuse "vaper production" with throat hit which we know are two different things. Throat hit and consistency are the two main items that make a PV good or not IMO. A big cloud of vaper - I could care less.

I'm totally with WomanOfHeart. I don't care a whit about TH, but give me vapor...plumes of vapor...the more the better. I can feel it in my lungs a little, and like she said, it makes me know that everything is working. A drop off of vapor is how I know my batteries are getting low....

x1 on that. I've smoked to get break from study (long time ago) or work. I developed this association that smoking = relax time. I love to put my legs up and take long drags, blow it and watch the smoke swirl around. The vaping gives me that, but if I had to sacrifice vapor, I know I'd switch back to analogs.

I like french inhaling as well and couple of nice, thick rings are always bonus. I'm dripping 18mg 50-50 PG-VG, like tobacco flavors, can go without flavor or TH, but can't get enough of big cloud. Bigger the better. Still waiting for my ProVari - I got a feeling I'd be in vaping nirvana soon.

Cheers

This is fascinating because we're really hearing from opposite ends of the spectrum. I'm pretty much in the all-PG, plenty of throat hit, very little visible vapor camp for pretty much all the reasons the OP mentioned. In fact I notice I exhale next to nothing visible most of the time. I do notice my exhales are more visible when I'm outdoors, especially in cold or humid weather, and I sort of like that the appearance is fairly smoking-like. (I figure that way I'm a more authentic "vaping commercial" in case any smokers happen to notice.)

(In other words, my avatar is a joke. ;-) )

Another newbie here, but even as analog smoker for 25+ years, I gotta have a bunch of smoke, feel it fillin up my mouth, my lungs, love the long tail of a huge exhale, like to watch the smoke dance in the air, wind through my hair, gotta have that smoke experience or else I could just chew nic gum and that would be such a drag! I don't mind any of the attention I get vapin around town, vapin with the windows up in my car, vapin here, vapin there... but i do love the "smoke" or vapor in this case and it would be pointless for me without it. I also don't like a ton of vapor that you can't feel or taste. My WC is thick, lovely vapor feels just like smoke to me but tastes real nice with an Espresso twist. JMHO.

I agree with the mental part. I had the eGo and it produced a decent amount of vape cloud. I would take longer and some times two drags before I blew it out to satisfy my mind. I bought a Map Tank from COV and that thing produces a huge cloud - AND I feel even better in my mind. I don't even take a long draw on it. The only problem is it produces a lot when in doors. I think it produces a bigger cloud of vape than when comparing the plumes of smoke when standing next to my friends that are still smoking. It makes them jealous and very curious. I believe the Map Tank is a guarantee when seen in person to get people to try and vape - and they are willing to quit/(try) after trying it!

Lots of vape cloud is important to me the more I can see the more I am satisfied and don't miss the analogs....
