People call it a Dud, because that's what it is. A poorly manufactured Dud. The real thing is head and shoulders better imho.

You can call it whatever you want...but most people-including myself- can't see a big enough difference in performance to recommend a true DID as a good beginners' genesis system over a DUD. The price is just not justifiable.

I feel your pain: Months ago, when people started really raving about the Vivi Nova tanks, I was part of the small, vocal minority that *hated* the things, and yet every day, there was yet another person recommending them as a beginner friendly tank system. Eventually I gave up on Vivi conversations completely, but that tank system has left a bad taste in my mouth to this day...

the moral of the story is that this is a forum- as such, it's lots of fun to be in the majority- or to accept the opinion of the majority and move on- and much less so to be in the upset minority. But both sides are equally necessary, otherwise this place would be quite a boring one indeed... :)

Sorry for the long-winded post, but sometimes the thoughts just have a way of finding their way into the interwebs...

I get what you are saying and as someone who own(ed) a Dud and a Did. I just found the Did to be head and shoulders better quality. It's entirely up to the individual what they choose to buy. I found myself frustrated by the air hole not lining up (without a massive gap) and the extra fiddle factor with the Dud. Perhaps, most worryingly, the plating started to come off, revealing nasty monkey-metal. I don't want residue from that in my lungs so I tossed it.

So yeah. Be my guest and get one of these, but make sure that it's at the very least stainless steel.

interesting that you should mention it- there is a stainless version of it available from one of the manufacturers...but none of the current suppliers carry it unfortunately...

I thought most of the DUD is actually stainless steel. Isn't the only part that is chrome plated brass the top cap? Anyway, The plating is done really well I don't see any sign of the brass. What I like about the DUD is that it isn't top heavy. I got a AGA Tiamat....and that thing is all stainless steel and built like a rock but it is way too heavy. I used it for one day and put it away. I would be interested in a all stainless steel DUD but not if it weighs three times more than the current DUD.

Edit: I forgot that many people have the older DUDs..... without the clear tank. I have the clear tank DUD and I think the only part of it that is chrome plated is the top cap.

The Chid/Griffin/Dud works.
The genuine works better. :)

Why?

The Genuine:
* The wick hole is larger in the genuine. This means you can roll a larger wick, which means you can wick more juice, which means you won't get dry hits.
* The refill screw is a nice thumb screw, usable even in a parking lot.
* The materials are normal real SS
* The space relationships of post to wick and screw to wick are precisely created for utmost vapor, flavor and less hot spots.
* One of the most affordable in it's class. (of genuine article, usually in stock, great CS).
* Doesn't leak when set up as creator intended. (or even halfarsed set up correctly tbh)

The Griffin/Chid/Dud:
* the wick hole is tiny in comparison to the overall size.
* the screws are so tiny you have to use tweezers to set them into the fill hole. (fun when refilling in a parking lot eh)
* the materials are questionable
* it exists only because of copying someone elses term paper, research, dedication, creativity, genius, investment, precise attention to detail.

pluses of the Griffen/Chid/Dud
* it works!
* it's cheaper than sin
* it's abundant, can be found anywhere and everywhere from 10 bucks on up to 50

Please notice, those are facts, not emotions.
For the emotional rundown, please stay tuned. :) nah, I won't go there again. Been there, done that. dumber than dumb.

I dunno, aside from having to make thicker wicks, I think my DID works better than the DUD, and is A LOT more airtight. There have been two times where my entire tank of juice has leaked out of my DUD(once all over my bed, grrrr!!), but my DID seems completely leak proof. I had it laying on my bed, airhole straight down for a few hours the other day with a full tank(didn't mean too, it fell over) and it didn't leak a single drop. I have no idea why it doesn't leak like the DUD did(see what I did there?), but I like it!

+1
Mine has never leaked either, as is typical with these when the fill screw is in and the wick is rolled according to plan. I took the liberty of adding it to the list. (can't believe I forgot to include that fact!)
