I agree with Brutus, no one is hiding anything, it's more consolidating. Remember it hasn't been that long since suppliers without their own forums were limited to 2 threads. How many threads on the same subject are needed? At some point the cautions about the subject and being careful turns into fear mongering. I can still find loads of threads about the incidents.

Oh and don't be shocked or upset when this one gets locked as well. The amount of new posts on this story popping up alone could keep a mod busy for a while. Nothing is being hidden, it is actually being openly discussed a lot, to bad the media is not doing a fair job in reporting, of course scare tactics always get ratings.

No one is hiding anything, there is a single thread for comments on this case that has been there since the incident was reported. I would rather read that than several threads all discussing it seperately.
There is even an updated battery safety information page advising on the current situation

Ok - Conspiracy debunked, so let's see if all this info gets disseminated to all those concerned.

Below applies to me, and unfortunately my understanding of batteries is limited at best:

Mid-size e-cigs like the eGo and Riva are not likely to explode because they have integral protection. If they all had end plugs it would also help - those with a bottom-end USB charge facility in effect have a blowout plug. Others have a sealed lower end. As single-cell units, the risk is low. However they seem to suffer from more meltdowns than any other type, perhaps because the load on them is generally higher (when using LR fittings for example) than on the minis and the protection circuitry is similar. The tiny circuits may have to take 2.5 amps, and this is a lot for micro-electronics in a very small package.

I have two 1000mah egoT batts that I use with LR cartos that I purchased last year from Cignot/MVS and they've been performing admirably and without probs. - however I don't know what type batteries they are and if I'm at any increased risk for a meltdown. Any insight would be appreciated.

Just keep an eye on your batts when charging, don't leave them unattended. I like to keep mine in a pyrex bowl when charging and don't leave them on overnite or while I'm away. Just a good safety precaution.

If you find that your battery is starting to get warm unscrew your carto or atty, it's also a good idea if you're carrying around in your pocket not to have them attached, sometimes the button can get depressed and activate. hth!

You should check out this thread here - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/269050-my-ecig-safe.html

I'm gonna quote Morandir835 from another thread....

"......, that's a fat batt. What care needs to be given with those is to be sure not to leave them charging overnight. If they're rated for 900mah or above they should be fine with the 1.5ohm dual coils because almost everyone I've opened up and looked at have a 4c rating (meaning they can put out 3.6a). The only time heard failure of the exploding nature is from being left on a charger too long."

Wtf......?

I started such a thread myself and it was deleted.
They don't want the discussion in this part of the forum, which I find bizarre.
Explanation I got was they don't want it to end up at the top of google hits on searches for "ecig".
They don't want to feed the antz.
I don't agree. It's a story in the media, discussion should be in this part of the forum.
This thread will be locked/deleted too.

The thing is, it IS being discussed all over the ECF.... I understand why it's consolidated (to some degree)...I'm having to skip all over the place to read the comments now. It would be nice if it were "slimmed" down as the mods intended. Anyway, it looks like this thread is staying open, so comment away and let's discuss here...or on the other threads about this on the ECF.
