Well... I replaced the coil last night and it's a little better but still has a slight metallic taste. The wick looked good and I even un-rolled it a little. It didn't have and gunk or burn damage as it wasn't broken and I could see through it when held up to a light. It's always been wicking really well so I know it isn't clogged up. I'll make a new wick tonight and see how that goes.

Thanks for the feedback.

Heya Turbo! Long time no see buddy! Good to see ya still around.

No problem, I've had a similar thing happen before and it was the wick needing replaced. Yes, still here! I tend to hide out in the modders or rba forums. I'm on way too many forums and am trying to ease off but it's hard ;)

You could twist the 36 awg wire, it will lover the resistance but more importantly make the wire less likely to pop so quickly. I wish my wire as follows.
Cut a length of wire about 6ft. Double it and pop the loop over the knob on my dining room chair. Tuck the other ends into a drill holding it in with a drill bit. Run the drill until the wire is uniformly twisted with about 1-2mm between the twists. Carefully unhook from the chair because it will want to curl. Gentle let the wire go free from the drill bit. Cut off a length to work with and treat it just like any other coil.
They seemed snug, yes. Maybe I should make them tighter. With the 36 I used a 3/4 wrap, with the 32 I used a 5/6. Evenly spaced, I'll say yes, but next time I'll pay more attention to that. They popped on the first fire attempt, so I'm not sure if there were hotspots. It popped on the top coil leading to the screw all 3 times.

I only have a small amount of 32, which I purchased from DV, but it says A 32 Kanthal, not A1. I was trying to get it right with 36 A1 before using 32, but I gotta do what I gotta do I guess.

I just got a zen. The coil is on, glowing good, lots of vapor, but tastes like crap. Any ideas on what I did wrong? Or do I need to let it get the juice soaked up good.

break in the wick, should get better if there are no hotspots.

in general with Zen's: load of vapor, good nic release but mediocre flavor.

instead of mls of juice, months may be better. and a wick can last for months
I saw some pre rolled mesh wicks for sale $1.59. I'm still reading posts. Lots of ideas, some conflicting. I decided not to buy pre rolled until I learn how long they are supposed to last (how many MLs juice) about.
