wicking issues

I just rebuilt a cobra clone finally got the coils to fire together after three failed attempts, put a new wick in and one good draw then a burnt taste wait a min another good draw then a burnt taste, I've removed the fill screw no improvement any ideas. Also this is my first rba.

take a good, close look at your coil. If any part of it is loose and not touching the wick, it will give a burnt, metallic taste. I can always tell when my coil and wick have shifted, I feel the need to tilt. Tension is the name of the game. Too much and you get hot spots and a burnt taste, too little and you get a burnt taste. I wrap my wick out of the device to get a nice, even tension all around the coil.

some times with a thinner gauge wire you can make a nice build, but from expansion & contraction the wires can move after the initial set-up. i would take out the juice and dry pulse the coils again, i am sure you will see a hotspot, readjust by prodding the wires. this HS could be from a fry in the mesh or just a loose or tight wrap. most times it is the top leg connecting to the positive post. like the previous post mentioned it is usually from the tension of the wire. maybe the first thing you can try is to just spin the wick slightly, this sometimes will do it. if that doesnt work then i would empty tank and re-adjust

well the HS was a fry in the mesh, still don't know what I'm doing wrong with the tension I think I'm wrapping it to tight.

well here's the new wick I wrapped after a little tweaking it's working better than the stock wick and coil.

Hey, that looks pretty good! See how those two coils (counting from bottom, #2,3) are a little brighter? They may be a bit loose. If it tastes good, go with it, tho. But if you taste a bit of the "harsh metallic". Try moving all the coils up a little, one at a time; this should tighten those bottom ones a bit, and give the upper ones a bit more slack. Just a touch, now. All in all, good to go!
