So recently received a DSE-905 from the classifieds and the strangest thing is happening. I'm getting 3.76v off of a new battery when I try to meter it from the connector while the device is firing, but when I check the voltage of just the battery I'm getting 4.18. Why would this happen?

Creniker, when I read your question it reminded me of a post Trog did on his forum not too long ago - sounds like this is not so unusual. Apparently, a fresh battery will give one reading with no load, but often a lower one under load. Here is his post: some battery voltage testing stuff - ECigScrewdriver home of an E Smoking Icon
I have seen reports like that, but when its coming up almost .5v less then what the battery is with no load that's where it gets weird.
Edit: I just checked my SD MKII and the voltage without load in the device was the same as the battery. Wonder whats wrong with the DSE-905.

That is typical with the 905. About half a volt is LOST in the electronics. The center pin is also LIVE and the electronics switch the shell of the connector to negative (the connector is set in plastic).
Sounds like it's operating normally. Be careful to not put a lot of force on the connector as the plastic is only glued in.
