Personally I'd get stainless steel wire. Good for both tc and wattage mode. No experience with claptons sorry.

It depends on the target resistance and type of coil you are trying to build.
You should do a bit more research and learn how wire thickness and size relate to performance.
Play around with some online vape calculators like "steam engine" to get some ideas.
I also prefer SS wire, tastes cleaner than Kanthal. Like Bad Ninja said above, Steam Engine is a great place to learn what gauge will work best for you. For Clapton wire, you'll need to get yourself a drill and thinner wire to wrap around the core wire. A common combo is 24g core with 32g wrap, but technically it can be whatever you want. You'll also need something to wrap the coils with, like drill bits or something. I like coilers, have and use a Coil Master and it works great. Even use it to wrap my clapton coils.

I've tried Nichrome 80, Kanthal A1, Ti1 and SS316L. I could use Kanthal A1 and Nichrome 80 interchangeably, and found both similar to me. I didn't really have any success with Ti1, and SS316L I had tried before (as Gplat) and really liked it, but didn't care to pay the premium. Found medical SS316L thanks to a member here who's name slips my mind right now and it's all I use now. ATM I'm using a 26g/32g SS316L dual claptons on my Velocity and Sapor which I'm pushing at 70-90 watts depending on my mood, wicked with rayon. IMO it tastes cleaner than Kanthal + cotton, and lasts longer.
I have been on a temp control kick lately. I like the taste when using nickel. Hate the flavor on titanium, I know I'm weird lol. After using nickel for a good while, if I build my rda with kanthal I don't like that flavor much now. So I have only been using nickel or Nichrome as of late. Hoping I like the flavor using stainless. I ordered different gauges so I can Clapton some if it all works out. If it doesn't work out I could double or even triple my money easily since ss is high at a b&m.
Yeah, I don't want to use something that wears too quickly. Although I like to tinker, give me anything and I'll rebuild, it for no reason at all! It it not rewarding, if I cannot enjoy the build. Plus, money is a big factor. Ss wire seems to me , is the way to go. I do like a hot vape time to time, what are the ramp up time on claptons your using? I'm in no hurry just yet as I have a brand new tfv4 and I've not started using the single coil rebuildable deck just yet!

NiCr is in reality the better part SS. SS is the worse conductor of heat, what these companies wouldn't do to make a quick buck on those with no technical knowledge !

I thought as much. Ss conducting electricity sounded weird to me, it still does. I never heard of it being used in any other way other than spoons and knives, lol. I always thought heating wires were something else!
In this day of age they are using the cheapest raw materials to the unknowing consumer and an easier chance to landing that contract by using the substitutes because a $15,000 cabling quote is much more attractive than a $25,000 quote using copper.
Coax cable your cable company uses are now made with steel and network wire like CAT5E with aluminum instead of expensive copper. Dam even the copper penny is made from steel now !
Its not supposed to efficiently conduct electricity. Thats why it gets hot.
Its used as resistance wire.
I'd say go with N80 or SS wire. Those two are my only wires I build with, great taste and longevity.
