Jo - my dad has had surgery on his lower back. He fought the pain for years before finally having it fixed. His first comment to his wife (my stepmother) after the surgery was done was "It's gone. The pain's gone." For him, the surgery was a miracle.

His recovery was longish, but he was astonished it took him so long to have it done, and how much pain he'd been stoic through before getting his problem fixed.

Wow Vicks. Thanks for that. I've been in pain for 15 years. It has affected most decisions I've made and my health in other areas. I finally found out what it is and was scheduled to have it and then my insurance denied it because I smoke. That played a large factor in the ecigs. Now I just have to see if they will do it with the ecigs in play or if I have to quit those too. I don't plan on doing this forever, but am enjoying it right now. Need to ask, just haven't yet. I've been hesitant to move forward because of all the bad stories I've heard about back surgery not helping at all and in fact making things worse. I can somewhat function right now. Kind of. Don't want it worse! LOL But really, everyday it gets worse. So your story has encouraged me. Thank you.
