Smoking was a habit. vaping, for many, can become more of a hobby. People who engage in hobbies often seek out other like-minded individuals. For example, you're a member on this vaping-oriented message board for, what like 7 and a half years it says. How many "cigarettes.com" websites did you join, back when you were a smoker? That doesn't seem to cause you any grief, so why is it such a leap to think they/we/you might also want to congregate in person, and not just in the virtual world?
vaping, a hobby? Yeah, I suppose I can see that, but it makes me think people who never smoked cigarettes are take-up vaping for no other reason than to be "cool". Maybe that's how those of us who smoked picked-up cigarettes to begin with. IMO, there's nothing "cool" looking about vaping... It tastes good, and it's fun, but it looks a bit odd compared to smoking. From an appearance perspective, smoking cigarettes will always be the "coolest" vice. Personally, I'd like to see cigarette smoking make a comeback with a "safe" tobacco. Dunhill makes cigarettes with zero mg tar. How they achieved this, I do not know?

yup, been to the one we had here, and it was a fun experience, it's about people selling hardware, people wanting to show their liquid brands, both for the local stores to carry or get people to try them out, etc.

The trick contest wasn't even a big thing, and very few of the "hipsters' clouds chasing type, it was normal people for the most part that were there because of their interest in vaping.

They were handing out free starter kits in trade for a pack of cigarettes to motivate smokers that were there to learn and jump on board.

As I build, try to teach others, and DIY, I was able to get a few things, meet people that I deal with online and such.

To believe that such conventions are a joke is extremely counter-productive to getting people onboard.

Of course there's going to be a part of the "population" of vapers that will be part of the neckbearded tattoo cloud chasing hipsters, but then, is that different from some members on here that act negatively and provide poor information, and if we single those people out, does that make vaping bad? Nah, we need to concentrate on helping each other out and supporting newbies instead.

If that means that we have conventions that helps people vape instead of smoking, help them learn to get proper hardware and get contacts for assistance in their journey into vaping, then it's all good.
A cogent, logical reply.

You have to consider a few things...

Yes, the "cool/hobby" thing is one aspect that I do find annoying, when I see the "kids" going on all about "cloudzzz man!" but at times, I also take it as "would that person gone and take up smoking instead"?

And if someone that goes with vaping tries a cigarette and finds the cigarette gross and such, they'll stick to vaping instead.

There is no such thing as a "safe" cigarette nor will there ever can be... it's combustion smoke/residue being inhaled.

And as a hobby, it's better than many that are self-destructive..

It's about health, and vaping goes beyond what smoking has ever been.

For the non-smoking crowd, it may be a "fad" but if they stick to no or low nicotine, odds are, they'll tire of it and move on, while with cigarettes, very few are "immune" to the cocktail of addictive substances.

Excellent point, and I think you're absolutely right. Once it's no-longer considered "cool", they will stop.

Btw, I saw my first e cig around 2004 at a Tobacco and Pipe trade show in vegas.
$75 wholesale for a cig a like starter kit.
We have come a long long way.

I hope that cigalike performed well, because that's about the only vape thing I've heard of that beats the 2007 grandfather date in the deeming regs.

Heck, it's no worse (actually better) than the mid-life crisis of motorcycle tough-guys weekend warrior fad.

I rather see such people go with a hobby that doesn't end up a risk on the road to themselves or others. :p

And it can teach them about physics, science, chemistry, etc. if they really get into it in a proper intelligent way.

I've been riding Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles since I was 15 years old. When the Harley craze happened in the early 2000's, I was like... What? People who had no business on a motorcycle, much less a big-twin Harley were everywhere! I occasionally attended bike events, but stopped when the builder craze kicked-off. I personally knew 3 people who lost their lives during this time. IMO, none of them had any business on a motorcycle. I never said anything, because I didn't want to impede their confidence. I did however give them pointers on things to watch for, NEVER drink and ride, and proper form when riding with a group. Two of them were killed as a result of riding drunk, and the other was hit from behind by someone who was ......-off for whatever reason.

You think regular cloud competition is crazy? There are kids in my neighborhood that wait till night time, turn on the community hot tub, wait for it to steam upwards then take a seat around the edge. They then blow massive clouds from their 300 watt mods, downwards into the steam and watch the steam and clouds rise. I have seen this a few times and scratch my head. They really enjoy this and have a great time.[emoji16]

I hear the words "kids" and "vaping" much too often. I suppose law enforcement has more important things to deal with than parenting other peoples children.

I live close to UCF. Many of the students vape, but I don't see them doing it in public very often. I suppose they're worried that others will think they are "douche-bags", so they wait until they're indoors. I don't know for certain... I'm merely speculating.

Been riding for over 30 years now... and when I'm seeing a weekend warrior with his wife on the bike with them, or a cute "matching" set of motorcycles, and watch them take off in a struggle to balance their bikes, either getting their feet up, almost dropping their bikes, aren't able to make that turn or such properly... I really end up having to take a deep breath and wonder what it's going to be that will get them to realize that they'll end up in a bad situation.

Saw one the other day that could barely keep his bike upright, had what appeared to be a very young passenger, and yet, had rest pegs that he went directly on... I just felt nauseous.

Hot tub vaping ...

A new one for me and one I didn't see coming though I have noticed that the cloud is strong when the humidity is high :)

Ya gotta love it :thumb:

"Kids" in general is a subjective word, more than a real one... my son is 33 years old and I still call him a kid, and lump him in with "kid's these days"

It doesn't make him, or kids somewhat younger anything close to children however... only to us, and that only due to our own advancing years..

The majority of "kids" attending UCF are in fact adults who can do things such as join the military and make all manner of legal decisions for themselves.. so them vaping is just that, a decision they are old enough to make for themselves..

And, the decisions of people to allow their adult children to vape? well Hell.. just being nitpicky there.

I started smoking cigarettes not when I was in college but when i was 13 years old, and I'll tell you what, I would have been better served if someone HAD given me a vape back then...

Vaping isn't smoking, a college age kid is an adult no matter what they look like to you, and perhaps you need to remind yourself it's not to you to save another adult from their choices in life, it's simply theirs to make them.

As far as your assertion that a vaper looks like a douche-bag I disagree, I think someone who vapes just looks like someone who is vaping atm.. a douche-bag is someone who cannot make it through a restaurant dinner out without using his/her cell phone to prop up their own feelings of importance.. not someone who is vaping for either their health (to quit smoking), or so they don't smoke in the first place.

I was at the doctor Monday and there was a "kid" there, pregnant and smoking, unable to quit even for her child's sake. You tell me just how douche-baggy vaping is, and how cool smoking is? And Hell yes I talked to her about her quitting smoking, and trying vaping when she had to for the withdrawals, if only to get through her pregnancy.. "kid" or not.

These kids who are vaping, are at least a step in the right direction.. and much better off than many.

Nice lecture, sport. Health concerns aside, smoking still looks cooler than vaping.

States should make people take their motorcycle certification test on the bike that they're registered to ride. Of course, some people own more than one type, so...

I took my test on my '02 Dyna. I heard one guy say; "He's never going to make through the slalom course on that..." I passed without so much as grazing a single cone. He knocked over three cones riding an 883 Sporty!

I agree with @Opinionated. I don't know how you think smoking looks cooler. So the look of years of health issues, wrinkling skin, raspy voice, smelly clothes and maybe cancer "looks" cool. Sorry bro but you have the wrong picture of what "cool" is. It's not "Joe Cool the camel" anymore. It's said to think that you are one of the people that thinks smoking is cool but here you are on a vaping website. You may want to go look for one of the "cool people's" smoking forum and talk to all the people that have cancer and no voice box and talk about being cool with a stog hanging out their mouth.
