Again, how you vape will determine what would be a good match. Do you want to simulate smoking with a mouth to lung type draw or are you looking to blow big clouds of vapor? That determines whether you're going to be using a low wattage or high wattage setup. You also need to think about what type of tank you'll be using which holds and actually vaporizes the juice.

Honest, this isn't to make it all complicated. It's just to try and guide you in purchasing something more likely to work out well for you than not. And when you're starting out, you're usually far less forgiving if things don't work right.
Sorry Eskie. I will try to be more specific. In the spectrum of simulating smoking to blow big cloud vapor, i am leaning middle to slightly towards big cloud vapor. I don't want it to feel like a cigarette but I dont want to be blowing vapor everywhere nor want to carry an extra powerful battery to make said big cloud. Next thing I value is a slim size so I can keep it in my pocket without an issue. And lastly and utmost importantly, safety.

All in price range?

What equipment do you have already?

Now you have lots of choices!:)

So small, portable, moderately powerful, and direct lung. No giant clouds, but not tootling either. For small and versatile mods, the Pico is always a winner. One replaceable 18650 battery, 75W, fits tanks up to 23 mm in size. Another single battery solution is the Coolfire 4 18650 edition which is also 75W on 1 18650 replaceable battery. It can hold larger tanks, but it's also larger in your pocket.

A bigger, but still small setup, might be a 2 battery Alein kit. Very tiny for a 2 battery mod, great screen, looks and feels good, and the baby beast tank it comes with can make some nice clouds. It can also take larger tanks, so no limitations there either.

I am thinking of this as a long term purchase so I am willing to invest in something nice.

I have no equipment.

Hey Eskie. Thanks for the recommendations. Very helpful. I will check those out

If you really like pen style and you prefer MTL vaping take a look at Provaris. They are considered the best made and sturdiest devices and currently are selling for around $30-40 because they are selling out old models. There is a provari forum on ECF if you want to research it. There are several of us here that use them exclusively. Here is a link to take you directly to their specials page.

I know you don't consider me to be a battery expert, and that's all good and fine with me. Mooch is pretty much universally recognized as a battery expert; why not ask him if LiPo's are a safer chemistry battery?

Because I don't need to.

Because I understand their capabilities, care and limitations.

Because I don't rely on Mooch for anything more than graphs except to cite a source to back my point.

For which, in the video you posted earlier alone, he unknowingly supported 2 or 3 concepts I've been banging my head against the proverbial "battery experts" since late 2013 - early 2014.

Yet still there's some reluctance.

I've been doing my homework, abusing the snot out of, rebuilding/reconfiguring, testing myths and mfrs claims, communicating and correlating data with battery experts and hobbyists (with actual equipment, cycle life graphs, discharge and charge logs full of graphs, etc.) and dissecting spent cells years before you were copy/pasting misconceptions into a blog post for easy reference.

I like data.

Especially raw data.

And my time is limited.

And Mooch's work is invaluable.

So I will depend on his testing to choose better performing cells for the foreseeable future.

And others need real safety data.

Thats why I donated $100 I didn't really have to spare.

But all I need is a set of graphs to compare. ;)

Ive been reading about Provari pens after your suggestions and they really do seem like quality products. Perhaps a bit of a bias on my part but the fact that the product, including its regulating chip is made in the US rather than China puts my mind at ease. I've decided to cancel my iStick order and go with this

I feel the same way - although for economics I've had to buy a bunch of my stash parts amd tanks from China I buy American whenever I can. The last few months have been a good time to buy provaris - their regular prices used to be way out of my league. And if you have any questions they are really good about getting back to you really fast.

I have 5 Provari minis, four of them are for my stash pile for the dark ages - I figure they should outlive me. Some members here who are younger than me have many more than that.

BTW buying a pico is not a bad idea. Very nice little mod. I have one and use it when i want a change of pace. At some point down the road you might want to handle one at a B&M to see if it feels right to you.

Here is a link to Mooch's battery info.
