hello qwerty92 and welcome to the forum. Going from cigs to vapor was the easiest "quit smoking" I ever tried and I am SOLD on it. Most people start out with an eGo type battery and a cartomizer (tank) of some sort. Your budget can give you upgrades and skip a lot of hassle and wasted money. Check this link, UK and Ireland Suppliers and look for "starter kits".. then use the forum to ask questions about which ones to buy... People are really helpful and supportive I have found.

You don't mention what kind of budget you have, but a fairly inexpensive setup that should get you into vaping is the Spinner 3 ego battery and Aspire ET-S BVC Clearomizers - I would advise getting at least two of each plus some replacement coils:

My favorite tanks/clearomizers are the Aspire Nautilus Mini (25.00 USD), and for inexpensive the SMOK Micro Core RDC (4.00 USD)(it has adjustable air flow). If you have the budget I'd advise you looking into the MOD style batteries like the istick. Having a backup of some type is important, cause when the battery dies you reach for something. If you are going to try different flavors I'd go cheap on the tanks so all you have to do is swap out for different flavors. Getting the nic level is key to stopping the cigs.

Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I was thinking,

What's your opinion of the cartomiser ones? As I'm not very keen on the e-liquid ones, as I'm worried about side-effects! Sorry if this doesn't make much sense

Thanks.

Doesn't really make much sense. What side-effects are you worried about? The cartomizers use the same e-liquid as the clearomizers (and other tanks). And pre-filled cartomizers usually (not always, but usually) have crappy e-liquid in them.

If you're talking about the cigalikes that are sold in many places, there are some brands that people think are OK, but this is REALLY starter-level stuff, and many people don't like them at all (and therefore give up the idea of vaping).

At the very least, I would suggest you get an ego-style battery with a Bottom-coil clearomizer (perhaps an EVOD tank), and some e-liquid. Check out the UK forum; there are several good shops and vendors in the UK (and some really bad, rip-off ones). Hopefully either Susan~s or djsvapour will stop by here; they've got great info on where to go in the UK.

Thanks for responding!

I am currently smoking 'rollies' at the moment, in which I'm spending about £10 - 15 a week, sometimes more or less! I smoke a lot more when I go out socialising with people. So I would like a setup which would be a similar price region. :)

Welcome to ECF!

Switching to vaping will require a larger "up front" investment in the beginning. As time goes on, the costs will diminish unless you get into it as a hobby.

The hardest part is finding a e-liquid that you like. Taste is very subjective so what other people like may not be what you like.

Don't "cheap-out" on your first kit. I would suggest an Eleaf iStick 20 watt or 30 watt and an Aspire Nautilus mini.

Buy several small bottles of juice or a sample pack to get an idea about what you like. There will be some trial and error involved. Start with 12, 18 or 24 mg/ml nicotine strength.

Good luck!

Howdy,
Welcome to ECF

As for starter kit, there is a lot that goes in to this one. You'll want to find out what can satisfy the urge first. I don't often times group individuals in to categories because what works for me may not work for you.
With that being said, if possible find a local shop or someone that vapes near you and visit them. Stay away from Rebuild able atomizer systems however do handle the different mods and see what works for you. The suggestion of an Istick is a good one as well as the aspire as they are both beginner friendly and solid pieces of equipment over all.

I'm not fully sure as to understand about staying away from, I think maybe you mean the e-liquid. I'm confused by that one statement in your introduction, as it is understood that vaping is not as safe as say breathing air, it is far less harmful then smoking Analog Cigs. I wouldn't pay much mind to the minimal amount of chemicals that you may get in to your system, the only thing I'd do is stay tuned to ECF DIY Liquid board and see if anything comes up as a dangerous chemical or product there. It will be posted in that forum first so its good to keep tabs on that.

I'm not sure about what you ment by "Exploding" but sure, right on. I would calculate the chances of this happening but the number is so small its not even worth posting. First and fore most understand that this is a battery operated device that is sustaining a Dead Short so respect is to be given to the workings of the device. This means ensuring that the contacts are clean and that nothing looks out of place, make sure your coils are not gunked up and should they be either replace the head or rebuild the coils if it is the type of atomizer that you can. If you take some time to ensure that your device is in good operational condition and your using the proper charging method (If a charger comes with the mod, or a cable comes with the mod then USE IT). I'm not saying its not going to happen in your lifetime, but it is rare to say the least.

Welcome again to ECF :)

My personal suggestion will be Joyetech Eroll/Ovale mini (same product, ovale is overpriced usually). The new Joyetech Eroll-C is basically same product with cosmetic changes. These models are almost 0 maintenance. Vapor production is not bad and flavor is ok, good for beginners. If you buy, get some extra atomizers too since you need to change them (you can clean them but not same taste as new ones) when you lose flavor/vapor (i used to change atomizer every month).

After some time you will probably want get a mod for more flavor/vapor but for beginners who dont want to deal with atomizers etc, eroll is the easiest to keep up imo.
