Wow there's so much to learn

I've watched so many videos and read so many posts, I am almost pro at just a month or so in. Today is 1 week with 0 cigarettes, and wife is down to a few a day. I've always been a tinkerer, so vaping is freakin awesome lol. I have already spent a small fortune on carto's/clearo's/batteries, and even a couple mods. I have a aga t2+ that first time rolling wick/wrapping coil was fantastic and works like a charm

My question tho, is to do with my carto tank. I just got it, UCDT tank, came with a 1.5ohm dual coil, and i got a 5 pack of 2.5 ohm dual coil for it. The reason being is I've been using the 2.5 ohm dual coil non tank version and enjoying it, thinking I wouldn't have to constantly drip to keep it going, naturally progressed to the tank. The 1.5 ohm I primed, filled the tank, vaped for a few puffs and started tasting a little dry/burnt. I topped it off through the drip tip and did the exact same thing, then figured if the tank wasn't going to fill it, it was no good. Researched, and found a few things to try, so poked through the fill hole in the tank, reprimed, and just couldn't shake the burnt taste, so grabbed a new one. Did the same thing, but have not yet gone so far to get the burnt taste, so as not to wreck it, but can definitely tell its not feeding juice at my pace. Before I destroy a 5 pack of cartos on trial and error, what am I missing. I know some do 2 holes, some slot, some multiple holes, and I think I would prefer to slot, looking like an easier option, but again, don't want to destroy a 5 pack of cartos and this not be what I need. I read Baditudes method to prime the cartos, and do that. Do you guys think the problem is just the hole, or lackof enough holes, or is there something I am not getting...I would love to be able to vape the carto, without constantly getting dry burnt hits, and I didn't have this problem with the non tank version of the same cartos....just refuse to drip constantly into the drip tip when I bought a cartotank system so I wouldn't have to worry about this.

Help plz, and thanks for any advice given here.

It very well could just be the dual cartos. When I got my first cartotanks the dual coils naturally came with the tanks. I often got the dry burnt taste, but was quite certain the carts were wicking adequately with two laser-drilled holes. I started researching here on ECF and realized you can put single coil carts in a DCT tank. Duh!

Took a slight gamble, got some single coil carts in the same ohm resistance as the duals were. Guess what? That burnt taste was gone. Smoother vape, same vapor and flavor, better battery life. A win-win!

Try a single coil cart in the tank. Experiment with the number of holes for your particular juices. Also avoid the low resistance carts. I think you'll like it.

I'm less then impressed with the dual coils also. Seems the top coil just doesn't stay wet enough to avoid dry hits. Single coils is the way to go, no doubt.

As for holes. It depends on your juice thickness and personal preference. I use 50/50 vg/pg juice. vg is thicker then pg. I use one hole. 2 holes seems to be the norm with 50/50 but idk if its the way I draw or what, with 2 holes I get a lot of flooding. Slotting seems to be the way to go for really thick juices. I haven't tried it because if I get frequent flooding with 2 holes, slotting would be worse.

I had this same issue last week. I got a burnt taste and that's when I noticed the juice level in the tank was still full and wasn't feeding the carto properly. I punched another hole in the carto (it only came with 1 hole) and it works fine now.

I hate dual coils! Just get yourself hooked up with some single coils and I bet you will be golden.

I also am baffled by the dual coil deal. Never had an issue with vapor production with a single coil. The dual coil just seems like an opportunity for one more thing to go wrong. Plus, it throws the Ohm calculation off on a Vamo and an eVic for VW. What is the sense in that?

Dual coils (DCC) have been around for quite a while and many people love them. BUT you have to know how to use them. I use them on both my variable watt Darwin and Vamo without a problem. And they do provide warmer vapor than your average single coil carto.

But you have to have a model PV that can handle DCC's. If you have a PV with a weak 2.5 amp switch, then 1.5 ohm - 2.0 ohm DCC's will not work. You have to have a PV with a switch that can handle the increased power demands. At a minimum, a 3.5 amp switch. The Vamo has a 5 amp switch.

With the Vamo, you need to vape in N02 mode (RMS) and set the your wattage level to between 11.5 - 12.0. You will get nice warm vapor with NO burning at all. You will get similar results with other models that have a switch that can handle them. (I have read of people having problems with DCC's on the Vamo when they are using VV instead of VW in the NO1 mode)

So it's not the DCC that is the problem. Most likely it is your PV.

I have no use for dual coil cartos. To me, the hit is too airy and cool and the vapor is lacking. I use single coil two hole cartos for tanks.
My wife uses dual coil cartos and loves them.

The dual coils can be problematic as far as keeping the top coil wet. punching another hole up higher will help but once the fluid level drops below that hole the wicking issues will probably come back. Single coil Ikenvapes are all I will use in a tank. Their 510 Fusions are great.

two notes:
-dripping through the drip tip on cartos will likely create a flood. its best to remove the drip tip and drip directly on the polyfill.
-once you get a burnt taste from a carto, its toast. do not waste any mor eliquid on a burnt carto. if youve got a sizeable amount of liquid in the burnt carto, you can do a taryn spin (youtube) to remove the liquid.

I use triple punched dual coils in a Phiniac tank and never have an issue with keeping both coils moist. And they do provide warmer vapor than any single coil I have used.

I got the dual coils working fine in my U-DCT but I do very much prefer single coil. I feel single coil is enough and dual coil is almost to the point of being gimmicky. I can get great vape from a single coil without vaporizing my juice nearly as fast.

I will say this: Do not underestimate the amount of time it takes to prime a carto, it is super easy to ruin them by burning it dry before juice has a chance to saturate the filler.
