Wrong kind of throat hit. More like water down the wrong pipe.

Hey neighbor, I work at coral square. Usually when people choke with vaping the suspects can be nic level, dry hit's, or lack of hydration.

Dry hit's you would know because it has a slight burn to it so that not going to be your current issue.
Hydration for me is key, when i puff first thing in the morning its always extremely harsh and will make me cough. Once I drink some water it all goes away.
Nic level will also be very harsh and irritating when too high. I'm always meeting people with the complaint at my kiosk.

When I first started, that's how I felt. Had to remind myself that I wasn't inhaling hot, dry smoke. The moisture in the vapor was tough on my lungs. I found that if I turned down the voltage a bit, the volume of moisture was lessened a bit. That made it a bit easier to inhale. Also, take smaller hits. It will pass after a couple of days.

You just have to get used to it. The vapor is a lot different then cigarette smoke. It took me about three or four days. At first, I couldn't even bring the vape in without completely gagging. Then after a while, I was able to inhale more vape. Now I'm vaping 24MG like a boss.

I tried this before and the choking scared me away. I tried different things that people suggested like a lower nic level, higher VG, etc. All I ended up with was some useless 12mg juice I paid a lot for that sits in a bin as I blend it with a higher nic level, little at a time. I'm glad I gave it another go.

If you are smoking, try and stop since cigarette smoke irritates your throat which also could be an issue.

Also, don't hit it like a cigarette. Bring the vape into your mouth with a slow draw. Then bring it into your lungs. You also don't have to. You still get nicotine from your mouth and nose. You can gradually try bigger inhales. Eventually, choking shouldn't be an issue.

And what kind of equipment are you using? Some of these tanks can be very harsh on newcomers. I learned that the hard way with this Vivi Nova I had.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it some more time and see how I adjust. I'm using the Kanger aerotank mega. I really think it has to do with the liquid. My friend had Halo Tribecca and he let me try it. It actually felt like a real throat hit rather than choking. The other e liquids I've tried all feel like I'm choking. The funny thing is though that neither of us actually like Tribecca. We just can't taste it at all, so I'll have to keep looking for liquid.

Was the PG/VG ratio on your friends juice the same as the PG/VG ratio on your juice?

It very well could be the liquid too. I've had some bad ones. And some liquid actually has to sit and steep for a couple of weeks before you vape it.

Halo makes the best juice I've had so far. I'm vaping Midnight Apple right now and Voodoo all day at work. My next flavor will be Tiki Juice.

The couple menthol flavors I've tried from them are very good too. Subzero is a strong, icy menthol that lingers after and Mystic reminds me of a Marlboro Smooth.

Unfortunately Halo doesn't provide pg/vg ratios for their eliquids so I don't know.

I used to vape a lot of Halo liquid. I think it's 80/20 or maybe 70/30, around that ballpark anyway. I know it contains "significantly more PG than VG" as that is what they'll quote you when you ask.

Sounds like you are not liking the VG in the liquid. I can see that, it does cause a sensation of heaviness for some vapers.

Next chance you get, try a high PG liquid, or even a 100% PG juice, see if that helps.

In my experience, 'wrong kind' of a throat hit/coughing/shortness of breath is caused by all the tar/other nasty stuff from analog cigs coming up from your lungs, kinda like autocleaning of your lungs and the overall nicotine content compared to analogs. Ecigs do produce different kind of experience compared to analog cigs, and it's common to experience shortness of breath/coughing when switching from analogs to ecigs, the symptoms should pass in a couple of weeks when your lungs have 'cleaned' themselves and adjusted to vapor instead of chemical ridden smoke with tar and carbon monoxide.

I agree with this. I don't like it because it DOES NOT give me that throat hit. Ave juice.com has a good supply of juices that do not have the PG additive. They're called "Alien Vision." I tried Bobo's County and Gorilla juice.

Take care!

Lucky for me, this was noticeably gone in three days and completely gone in four days. The first time attempted vaping last winter, it never went away. But I was also smoking about a pack a day still. This time I cut myself down to 5 cigs or less when I started. Now I'm 100% smoke free. Now the only time I have trouble with coughing is when I wake up. But that quickly passes after some morning hydration.

When I first started vaping, I did it so I could smoke in places I could not with analogs. I found the first few drags off the ecig would make me gag like crazy. Once I quit the analogs, this stopped happening. Now I think I would barf a lung if I tried another analog.
Strange too you say that the Halo liquid didn't have the same effect on you. Are the other juices you tried American made? Halo is great, very high quality e-juice. The cheap stuff(usually Chinese) can be awful. Let's face, who the heck knows what they put in it or what standard of purity they use. You don't have to pay premium prices for good Juice. look around the web and a few threads on juice in the eliquid forum and you'll find something that agrees with you real fast. Takes a lot of trial and error, but to me it was worth it.

Good Luck!

I really dislike these type of general comments with no real thought or proof behind them. A lot of good quality liquid comes out of China actually. Dekang and Hangsen have been around for many years and are very well thought of in the vaping community.

China is not the only country that has issues with its food supply chain you know, just have a quick look at the CDC website to see we manage to kill 3,000 Americans every year with poor food manufacturing and handling.

i read these 'Vape Horror Stories" and I have to wonder. What did I do wrong, never experienced any of that stuff. The only side effect I have experienced is shinyitus (still have a bad case of that, suspect it's incurable).
Don't get me wrong I hate to hear from anyone having trouble. I also, feel somewhat helpless due to not experiencing these issues. Had I had those issues I'd probably still be smoking or trying cold turkey to quit.
