Coming from an GS E9 - I do have to say the 808 threading is rather lame.
I've got 2 XL manual batts and 1 auto passthru, all have had "fitment" issues with all the different types of 808 carts. This is due to both machining and such short threads. The new softcap premos seem to fit best (but I only got one pack of them). Others go on and are the wee-bittest crooked. Some just don't want to go on easily.
I use a wire brush to keep my threads on the batts clean. And try not to carry cart or a battery in my pocket without a cap or cart on it (to prevent lint/dirt getting on the threads).
On a semi-related note, I also use Dust-Off to keep the breather holes clear.

Is this a hardcap/softcap issue?

The only hardcaps I have are 555, and I had never tried them on my passthru before. I dug it out, and my 555 struggled to get on.

Softcaps seem fine so far (with my limited flavor).

At least knowing the hardcaps are being phased out, it's a temp thing.

I've had some XL batteries with bad threads--they wouldn't screw onto to cartos very well and they wouldn't thread into chargers. I found that a machine die of 8mm and 1mm pitch cleaned up the battery threads fine. I have to do this on about one out of six batteries apparently. I really like these V4L products, but they are very badly made.

Mine are softcap premium blanks. Only 2 cartos out of the 4 boxes though... it's not a problem since I stay on the PT most of the time anyway. Might start taking that thing to bed with me soon :p

Wow - statistics are one thing, unlucky is another. 3:100 I'd believe, 1:6 is tougher to accept. Unless you only have six batteries, in which case it could be 1:1000000000000000...

I haven't seen one poorly threaded in my dozen and change. I've only heard of two others in the time I've been on the forum, which amounts to hundreds and hundreds. The one in this thread and one other.

The cartos occasionally have bum threads, but they're a cheaper/softer disposable item.
