Newby here. I just bought a xtar WP2 II charger for charging 18650 batteries. I charged my first battery today with it set on the 1 A setting and it took just a little over 4 hours. Is that the best setting or should it be set on the .5 setting? I am assuming at .5 A it would take approx. twice as long? Thanks in advance for your help.

Same charger. Never tried the .5 A setting. Was told to use the 1 A setting. I don't question it. It works. I would ignore the .5 A.
Hi Snake, The switch is for matching the charger with your battery. Over 1000mAh=1a charge setting. Under 1000mAh=.5a charge setting. This will keep you from cooking your smaller batteries should you ever have any on the charger. Stay safe. Happy Vaping.
