I do. So far so good. Since the coil is at an angle then i just push the cotton up against the base and make sure the channels are clear. i put plent of liquid on it so it kinda sticks there. I saw this on a video, but cant for the life of me remember which one it was. I watched so many but that is the one that stuck. I have also seen where you make the wick long and pull it up through the small tube and put it flush with it and then push it back in with a small screw driver.

I've been using cotton balls for my genesis style atty, and can't quite seem to get the knack of wick thickness. Either I have too little cotton in the wick, causing dry hits and burning wick, or too much, choking off the wick, causing - you guessed it, dry hits!

Since I have a kfl clone inbound, I was hoping to try yard to see if I don't get better results.

How I gauge the amount of cotton.

I pull it through and it should move easily in the coil and at the same time look about 80% full. SO I just give the cotton a bit of a tug back and forth to make sure it moves once it looks fairly full. I do not have issues with dry hit on the Kayfun UNLESS I get those channels blocked. That seems to be the real kicker with the kayfun.

I was just unsur of how it would function with the design of the kayfun... The build videos I've seen seemed pretty dependent on a cotton tuft, which the yar doesn't produce.

There are also builds that use silica wick for it. So it should work either way. THe thing that matters is having the end down near the base but not in the channel.

I like yarn for my kayfun but I have to say that I've had a heck of a time getting the wicking right. Of course I haven't had it that long so I know it's just a matter of trial & error But today after reading some people's methods for positioning the coil I changed mine a bit & I'm happy to say that I've went through almost a mil of eliquid without any almost dry hits (where you can tell the next one will be a dry hit blah) or flooding. That's exciting. I hope I've really found the problem & worked it out so I can quit having to be paranoid the wick is going to give me crap at an inopportune time.

I was so ready to throw my black edition kayfun out the window. I was always getting a burnt taste. Never could get it to wick right with cotton, silica or ekowool. I figured the channels were to shallow. Well, on a whim tonight I used some yarn I picked up online when I first started vaping. It was just sitting in a plastic bag calling my name. I have never liked the taste of cotton, no matter what I did to it.

It looks like this clone and I are finally friends. I used yarn, no burnt taste and vapes good. The flavor doesn't have the weird taste I think cotton has. I can't believed it worked. I thought for sure it would leak or burn cuz it seemed so thin. I just folded it over and slid it through the coil and it's been great ever sense. I hope tomorrow it stays that way. Now, what else can I build with yarn. I am a new coiler and the kayfun is a great piece to learn on. I highly recommend the yarn if you have the same problems. No leaking and no burning is a big plus. It is vaping as good as the real Kayfun now. The only thing I can say about the real thing is, no matter how bad my coiling is, the real kayfun always has good performance. Now I feel much better about buying clones and save $$ too. Now if I can get yarn to work on the Rocket from Fasttech, I will be sooooo happy.

I hear the x wick or whatever it is called is super too, but I just can't afford that.

Seriously, don't give up on the kayfun....try the cotton yarn. If it can work with my new learning curve of recoiling, it will work for anyone. A happy rebuilding newbie.

I have found that if you make a coil on a 2.4mm (3/32") drill bit, you can pull a doubled-up piece of cotton yard through the coil with a piece of wire perfectly.

Works real good as a wick on my Kayfun:
