quite amazing, you should be very proud of yourself.
I celebrated my 5 month anniversary a few hous ago with a full blown panic attack. For a couple of days I had had charley horses in my calf, so I increased my water intake and they went away. Yesterday the calf muscle was sore and again today but nothing I would call real pain, just tender, after sitting watching tv for several hours I realized I had a red mark on my leg and it was warm and I panicked. Stupid me forgot I had been sitting with that leg curled under me and the other leg laying across it, right on the warm red spot. Duh how crazy am I becoming?

Claudia I had a blood clot scare once, turned out to be diagnosed as "a muscle strain" since the pain was radiating UP the leg and not down the leg. Weird. Doctor told me that leg would be larger than the other, pain would radiate down the leg away from the area, hot to touch, and noticably red if indeed it was a clot. You could have burst a blood vessel though. Worth a trip to the doc?

I had to take DD1 to the doctor yesterday, they said they've seen about 100 people since last week with these symptoms. She's been having pain and "contractions" just under her breastbone, I was worried it was her gall bladder or something. Turns out it's a virus, they gave her some nausea meds and some abdominal muscle relaxers and told her not to go back to school until Friday. Whoopee!

:( Wear your amour well.

Personally, I think Shari needs to put a banner across the kitchen island that says "a happy wife makes a happy life" and say nothing more. It'll sink in.

I was pretty sure it wasn't a blood clot because both legs are the same size and I would expect pain rather than a slight tenderness, but it still freaked me out. It was warm not hot last night but I realized had been sitting in the recliner with that leg curled up under me and the other on top of that area. This morning it is still reddish, but just barely, not at all warm, no pain or swelling. I am back to thinking that it is the aftermath of a couple of pretty good muscle cramps caused by not drinking enough water. I have been plagued with leg and toe cramps my entire life so this is nothing new. I'll pass on going to the doctor unless it gets worse, but for now it is better than last night, I can't see any point in walking into the flu virus den for no really good reason.

Hopefully DD1 starts feeling better soon, and doesn't give it to DD2 or you.

I'm glad it wasn't more Claudia. My mom had a blood clot in her lower leg, the pain couldn't be missed. She screamed. Maybe it was the position it was in, idk that much about them. Just glad you don't have that. I finally got a hold of the dr. (I wasn't going to spend 7-12 hours in the er again) and getting more cortisone to hold me over. I may be able to get home health to come in. Geesh. This feels nuts. Out of the blue sky with no warning.

I am missing something here. Your knee is hurting, yes? You are getting more cortisone, yes? Home health aide? Can you not walk/stand? When are you having the surgery? I think I remember you saying daughter coming in April?? Are you sure you can put it off that long?

Ouch Aik. Sounds more serious than I was interpreting what you were saying. I am sorry it hurts so bad. You have to get that fixed soon.

What a long day this has been. I got down a few dozen of the original boxes for the collectibles that I have in my display case. Can not find the Disney ones. Hope DH did not throw them out years ago. Couple of trips for more empty boxes and bubble wrap. My leather set of Encyclopaedia Britannica escaped water damage. Yeah. Some of my Lladro and Hummels got wet but I was able to wipe them dry, no damage there. Inside of display case did have some water but only top and back of unit water damaged. Lights work now, did not right after pipe burst. Still more packing and moving stuff there. Have not even started other 10ft bookcases yet. Ugh. Moving boxes of stuff into spare bedroom.

Spent 45 minutes on phone with ins claims rep. Had her explain 'depreciation' when we have been paying for 'replacement value' on our policy for over 10 years. She claims that 'depreciation' is on materials and ins co holds back 30 or 40% to make sure that we do the work that is in estimate. When work is complete, the 'depreciation' $ amount should be sent to us. I think it is bs. She claimed if $10k estimate, they will send us check for say, $6k, and when contractor submits proof (or adjuster views completed job) then the $4k will be sent to us. I questioned the 8x10ft section of carpet in a 20x20ft room and how you can not replace a small piece of carpet and shampoo it all and have it match, period. She could not explain that one. I will have to talk to the adjuster when the estimate comes in. It is on record that we do not accept that carpet finding and will fight it. It will be at least a week more before we get the estimate. They will replace island but not sink, claims that policy says repair first, then replace if can not be repaired. Same with stove and dishwasher. Will get about $100 for a repairman to come out. I said, then why are we paying extra for replacement value. No answer from claims rep. Our projector in our theater room stopped working too; did wiring get wet? Need someone to check that.

Then our cable TV bill came in. Price went from $225/month to $260 per month (includes 'customer appreciation' discount). Spent 90 minutes on phone with cable company over that bs. Got it down to $240 per month. Not good enough but DH has to give up a few movie channels and he does not want to. More arguing coming tomorrow. Double ugh.

No daughter. I got cortisone in the ER and it's worn off. It's the entire leg and I can't take opiates or ibuprophen it appears (didn't know that). As soon as I use it, it flares up again. What? I'm not sure. Appears to be psuedo-gout, calcium crystals related to artheritis ? according to wikipedia. Started in my hip. The weirdest thing. I can't put any weight on it and I live in a second floor apt. I feel stupid that I can't take out garbage or do laundry. This is on the heels of that nasty respitory infection. IMO I need to see an allergest but that'll be the last thing offered. It feels worse than someone hitting me with a hammer. I just woke up with one day.

BTW - Jwraps is having a contest again. I like those.

Sorry, I must be confusing you with someone else here who needs knee surgery (Erised maybe???). My brain is full. I have been saying that a lot lately. I have heard of pseudo gout before. I know regular gout is very painful. Double ouch for you. Hope your dr can find something to help you to treat it.

If you know one person that is worse off than you, you have to try to help them. If everybody did that, we'd all be better off in my opinion......My roommate helps me and I help him and his kids, I am helping this friend and so on....

Oh, Karen. I think you are so right in so many ways. I am so old now (58) though, I have had my ups and downs on this way of living -- the attempts to help others. I can't say how many times I've turned my life upside down to help someone. Heck, some of them were guys I married. Yup. THAT turned out to be a bad idea (the marry-them idea). Sharing can be taken to an extreme -- like signing over the co-owned or I-owned house away just to convince the husband-mistake to kindly go away with no hard feelings.

I think it is the best way to be, and in an emergency I will always be that way, but I confess that I've become more insular now, because my own little teeny tiny family has been so in need of help that I'm doing about all I can to take care of them. I completely get it though -- the desire to care for others. I just mostly have to keep it inside the family now and it keeps my hands full.

What stinks a little bit though is when we find ourselves being the ones who need help. I hate ever admitting that I need help, or ever saying "no, I can't do that for you," and my family is accustomed to me being the strong one. I've had to learn to draw a line here and there.
