So I know about refilling, topping off, and throwing away once it tastes burnt or performance drops.

BUT, what if you keep it moist always, you can't see any visible burning nor taste any? Is it safe to continue to use that particular carto? Or is there a ballpark expiration date as to when it becomes unsafe/unhealthy to continue to use that carto?

Thanks in advance!

That's how I typically use cartos - I keep topping them off until they no longer perform well, or until I get careless and burn it. If it just needs cleaning, I put it in the "to be cleaned" container, otherwise I toss it. I'm not overly concerned about them being unhealthy, as PG has antibacterial/antimicrobial properties, and I occasionally wipe down the exterior with rubbing alcohol. It's not uncommon for me to use the same carto for a week or more. I also recently got a WetBox from CloudsOfVapor.com - this seems like a great solution for keeping the carto in good working order - I'm very pleased with it so far.

It is a box mod that uses a 14500 battery, and has a 3ml juice bottle. A little squeeze on the bottle shoots some juice up into the cartomizer, eliminating the need to constantly top them off. They're available for either 510 or KR808D-1 models:
