I'm curious. You said you moved in with your sister. Do you pay her rent? Maybe she feels like you are spending money you could be saving. Just a thought. I love new toys too but sometimes you have to do like Grimmgreen and get out the vape budget hands !:)

That's the first thing that popped into my mind. It all depends on the reason why you moved in with your sister. If it was because you couldn't afford your own place, then she probably sees the writing on the wall that you're going to be there for a while because at the rate you're going, you're not exercising control with your money.

I know it sounds preachy and I'm not a preacher, but I'm trying to think of the dynamics of your relationship with your sister (you did post about your situation, in real life I would not offer my opinion at all). I hope you continue to vape and that is the best decision you could have made.

Maybe the sister moved in with him! And now she's worried that her place to live might be threatened by Shinyitis! :D

Like I said, by not buying cigarettes for over 3 months, I've saved over $500. Is there some legal requirement that I MUST put that money in a piggybank or under my mattress? Nope. I think I'll spend it any way I see fit, since I'm NOT buying future-cancer with it, and apparently he's doing the same. I've bought a LOT! of vape gear... but nowhere near $500 worth.

Since i entered the Vaping community i find myself saying this a lot and i imagine I'm not the only one haha. i moved in with my sister a few weeks ago and in that time I've gotten, a stingray clone, an itaste VTR, an itaste SVD, a new ego style setup for stealth vaping, a high end cigalike to aid me in quitting analogs, and an RDA and every time my sister sees me around the house using a new device she rolls her eyes and says "new e-cig? how is it any different than the other ones you have? you're an idiot." to which i proceed specifying the minute differences between my new device and my old devices. i let her vape it and she continues, "i don't see any difference than the last one i tried. stop wasting your money," to which i reply ":vapor: you just don't understand :vapor:" haha. no particular reason for this post i just find it funny how us vapors seem infatuated with trying different, more expensive devices, that in all serious, do the same thing. but its so much .......*** fun! getting vapemail is like christmas morning once a week! getting a new device makes us feel like children again and going to a vapeshop is like a kid in a candy store.

that being said, to any beginner vapers reading this i just want to remind you that you don't have to have a 300 dollar setup to vape happily and to keep you off cigs. a 20 dollar ego style blister kit from walmart can be just as helpful in quitting cigs as a gold plated V3 flip with a kayfun on top. but if you are into vaping as more than a means to quit and more as a hobby, then boy does it feel great to get new stuff!!!

Hi Andria, of course everyone is free to do with their money as they deem fit. As I see it, this is an issue that needs to be dealt with between the OP and his sister, he just posted the situation because he wants other people's opinions. I've reposted the original post and bolded the statement he made that he moved in with his sister.

haha guys I'm not trying to make it seem like my sister doesn't care about me not smoking or is mean to me about vaping. its more of just sarcastic remarks here and there about why i spend so much money on this stuff. i moved in with her (I'm 18 she's 20) because her house is much closer to my college and workplace and she wanted someone to rent out the basement anyway. i do pay rent so its not a concern of me not paying her.

Only $500 in 3 months? I spent $500-550 every single month on cigs! I could by a Provari/REO/Original Mech a month and juice to go with it and not spend as much as I did before :)

As long as the bills are paid, who should care? A hobby is a hobby... Your gonna spend it anyways (usually) whether its on computer gear, xbox/ps4 games, cars, shoes, drinking, smoking (ugh), or whatever a gazillion other people spend their money on...

Oh boy this^^^. I stopped drinking about a year before I quit smoking. Not only did I buy all the vape gear I wanted, but also some musical stuff too. And managed to stuff some $$$ aside for a rainy day. A 3PAD habit in NY along with an affinity for single malt scotch older than some girlfriends I have had adds up quick, IYKWIMAITTYD.

At one point, hubby mentioned how many toys I had. I reminded him that none of them produced smoke, and he quieted down. The next day I went out of sight out of mind with the bulk of my new things, finding them not hiding places, but places to live when not in use.

I also learned to curb "showing off" every little thing that I got. Now, he just brings my vapemail in to me if I didn't pick it up myself, says "here, this is yours" and wanders off without worries. He has always been a nonsmoker, and is really glad I am now too.

I think that insisting on showing all your new toys to your sister is a hot button. Might want to show them to other people instead, who can appreciate them without needing to mother your wallet.

I spent $176/mo on cigarettes; my husband gets paid twice a month, and I allocated $88 every pay period, for spending $11 every other day for 2 pks of smokes at Walgreens, $5.51 each. At first when I would order bits here and there, I kept wondering where the money was coming from, I'd never had any before. Then I got one of those sig banners, showing money "saved," and it was an AHA! moment; no damn wonder I was able to buy bits here and there with the money I *wasn't* spending on cigarettes. Recently I have bought a lot, but my husband has been getting a lot of weekend work, so we're a bit more flush than would normally be the case, AND, we finally got our fed refund back, last week. The biggest chunk of that had to go to getting some PM work done on our truck, $360, but that still left a nice chunk for the old man buying tools, me buying some tools and vape gear.

He's paying for vaping like he paid for smoking, but he FAR!!! prefers the vaping, so he doesn't raise a single objection; he knows I pay the bills and allocate for groceries before anything vape related is bought, other than my $40-ish every pay period for e-juice -- much better than $88 for cigarettes!!! :D

Lol... Ask her why she buys different styles of clothes or bra's.... they all do the same thing.. why did you spend more on one or the other? Tell her to stop paying for whatever bra she uses and just get the cheapest Wal-Mart sells... they both do the same thing. :)

I like the idea, but as to bras for my wife at WalMart? If I were to do that, would likely have to pull out the inflatable guest bed for a few days, possibly weeks. Any under $50 isn't worth having to her, unless that's the regular price & on sale for no less than $40.

My wife respects & puts up with me, I respect her in return. If that $50 bra keeps her happy & off my back, so be it.

Still, I try to save on my vaping hobby whenever I can.
