I've been vaping for just shy of 2 months and I had my last cig the day my first kit came in. It was a really easy transition for me from what I've read here. Anyway, my defining moment came about 5 days after I started:

I was visiting my son's house and we were relaxing on his front porch. I had my PV in my hand just relaxing and vaping. He lit up a Marlboro Menthol Light and started to smoke. Now, this is the brand I smoked for years (smoked for 35 years in all). He had taken a few puffs then looked at me and apologized for lighting up in front of me. Right then I knew I was OK as I just smiled and said, no problem son as your cigarette smells like crap to me.

PS: I bought my son a Blu disposable the same day and he tried it out and was pretty convinced it would work. I bought him an eGo kit (same as mine) when I got home later that day. He's had a tougher time of it and still has 1 or 2 real smokes a day but he's getting there...

My transition was instant as well. Two days after I started, I lite up a Marlboro....completely out of curiosity. I took two puffs and it was the nastiest thing I'd ever had...this was my defining moment. It was amazing to me that 20+ years of smoking could be undone (at least from a desire standpoint) in an instant. Now I've become hyper sensitive to analogs, and I can smell them from across the parking lot at a store. It's amazing that before I never even notice smoke smell, now I can't miss it.

My moment was when I was hanging out with friends at a bar filled with cigarette smoke and I realized that I had no interest in lighting up. Luckily I have friends wise enough to keep their squares out of arms reach and they never offer me a cigarette. My biggest issue with smokers is the smell that lingers on them after they smoke. I just think to myself, "God, I use to smell like that everyday! Never again."

I'm in da 'instant convert' group with NO typical withdrawal symptoms!

I know of many who have tried a cig later on with negative reports. In my case, I have NO desire to light up a cig whatsoever, not even for a 'test drive'. It's not that I'm afraid of restarting. I just know it would taste like crap.

I now can sit through the G-babies programs/sporting events without sneaking outside and around da corner to da shadows for my 'bakky hit'.

Count me in the instant group as well. But my big turning point that I knew I was solidified in switching was not this past weekend but the one before. Huge social event weekend, lots of outdoor parties. Lots of drinking and being outdoors, lots of smokers. If I had wanted to give into the temptation (and it was there a few times) I could have easily walked up to anyone and gotten a cigarette. I just pulled out my eGo and hard core vaped the urges away.

Yesterday or the day before, I forget which, I was sitting outside at work near the smoking area having a vape, and one of the servers from our restaurant came up and asked if I smoked (He needed a lighter), and I was all "Not anymore." After he went and found a lighter, I discussed my PV a little, showed how simple it is to use, and gave him an ECF card.

I think more and more servers are the types that will really start to use PVs. Most don't get much in the way of breaks, mostly by choice since they want to keep their tables covered to help increase tip potential ... and to keep the smell away. A quick vape in the cooler and you're good to go. :)

I was an instant switch too. I bought a gas station e-cig right after I bought a carton of analogs. I think I had 3 out of the carton before I gave the rest away.

Remember how you used to hate the people that would get in your face about smoking when you were a smoker? Take care not to become one of them.

You know, I find myself putting myself back in check on this a lot. I actually think at times I feel offended by the smell, and I'm like "that's not right, I can't be that way". Funny.

I also quit smoking the same day I got my 1st ecig. I knew I'd be okay the next day when I left my ciggies at home when I went out for a short shopping trip. I didn't freak out, no anxiety or nuthin'... I had an unopened pack of ciggies still left the day I quit. I still have that pack, never opened it, never wanted to. It's kinda like a trophy, and I laugh at it when I see it in my drawer. I figured I'd be one of those folks who would have a lit cig in their hand in my casket.

When I first stopped smoking, my smoking family members(that would be all of my family members over the age of 18) were being pretty considerate, and tried not to smoke in my presence at all. My mom was the enforcer behind this, and after I had started vaping, we had a birthday get together during which she yelled at one of my brothers for lighting up in the living room, even though it's her house, and she and my dad were both still smoking. I smiled and said "No, it's ok, really!" and meant it. That was the day my mom ordered her first kit, and we're both still happily vaping away.

Now, the smell of someone actively smoking still doesn't bother me at all, but stale smoke lingering in a room or on someone's clothing smells horrible to me. It seriously makes me sick to my stomach, and I wish I'd been a little prissier in the beginning, lol, because now they're all sure I won't mind.

Exactly the same for me, except my unopened trophy pack sits right here next to my laptop!

I don't leave mine out in the open because I get tons of family traffic through the house, and don't want anyone to assume I still smoke. I just got an idea, maybe I'll mount it on a block of wood and photoshop a trophy plaque.

I actually like the smell of smoke. Might have something to do with the growing-up-in-a-smoking-household bit though.

That must be it. I do have lots of good childhood memories associated with the smell of smoke, esp of my grandmother, who was a sweet, funny, wonderful and lovely human chimney.

Pipe smoke is the best, but I know that it would taste horrid if I tried it now.

It would, too, no matter how good it smells. After I'd stopped smoking, but before I started vaping, I snuck a drag off one of my dad's particularly good cigars and it was awful. Ptui. Really bad.

I do agree with ohal though, stale smoke is pretty nasty.

And I feel like such a non-smoker for saying so, too. I'm nice while they're here, but I run around like a madwoman with the febreeze the minute they leave.

This reminds me of a less than proud moment in my life, actually, but it marks another kind of turning point for me.

One of the times my dad quit smoking when I was a kid, I bought him a sort of gag gift trophy cig, it was a single cigarette with a wooden matchstick encased in a little glass tube imprinted with the words "in case of emergency, break glass". He thought it was funny, and he kept it in his desk drawer for many years. When I was about 17, and jonesing for a cigarette, any cigarette, I was rifling through his stuff and found it there.

And I smoked it.

How awful is that?

That morning smoke was my main problem.

I am in no mood for even the slightest of hassles first thing in the morning before I had that first smoke.
And when I say first smoke, I mean before I did ANYTHING else.

I would slap on some sweatpants and go straight downstairs and out the front door.
Then I would sit down on the welcome mat with my back against the door and start my day the only way it could be started.

With a smoke.

To replace that morning smoke I needed something that was 100% reliable, with absolutely zero issues.
I knew I had turned the corner when I started dripping and no longer had any hassles.

This poll is an interesting look at what other people needed to turn that corner...

I can't believe I didn't include that scenario in this poll...
