You guys just don't get it though. It may be better in the short term. 10 years down the line we might all develop some ....ed up disease from vaping.
You're all basing what you know on anecdotal evidence. This is exactly the kind of thing the scientific community has learned NOT to trust. That's why new drugs have to go through years and years of testing. Ecigs are barely in phase I but we've made them phase III.
You know all those "drug recall, come and get your money!" commercials you see on TV? Yeah, well those all passed the tests and still got released. Phase III is a mass release to the public. We skipped phase I and II.
And while nobody is exactly saying it's safe, the implicaiton is definitely there. If we're gonna discuss safety of vaping right now, we need to keep it in a pros/cons type of discussion. Not just "OMGZ, vaping MAKES ME FEEL BETTER SO IT MUST BE BETTER!!!" Common logic doesn't always work.
No, we are NOT besed what we know on "anecdotal evidence". Were you talking about years of testing on new drugs? Fine. While the e-cigarette should NOT be compared to a medicine, truth is the same PG we use on our devices, to dilute nicotine, has also been used on the medical field for years to dilute medicines used to treat lung diseases. So, even if the e-cig should not be considered a medicine, most of our liquid's composition (PG and liquid nicotine) HAVE been used, and tested, as "medicines". Pharma has been using both PG (on aerossol formulations) and liquid nicotine (on the Nicotrol inhaler, for example) foy years. That's what we KNOW so far.
"That's why new drugs have to go through years and years of testing". OK, but what about consummer products? (The e-cig SHOULD be considered a consummer product, after all - just like the much more harmful cigarettes).
Do those go "through years and years of testing" too? No. Do people cringe at the idea of eating food with new preservatives/colorings? No. Do people worry when they try a new energy drink? Do they think "maybe caffeine is unsafe OUTSIDE of coffe; we 'just don't know'" ?? Barely.
Why should we be so picky about a new consummer product, especially when the alternative is so well studied - and proved as harmful, time and time again?
