It seems even small towns are jumping on the legislation bandwagon. Looks like the politicians have nothing better to do almost everywhere! Remember when council meetings topics were about roads and schools? Too hard to address real problems.

Your town? If so. I suggest you join CASAA and get your local vapers organized, if you haven't already. (The vape shop owners might be a good place to start.)

Chances are pretty good that neither your local media nor the City Council members know anything other than ANTZ propaganda.

http://www.rstreet.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/20140205OregonTobcPresentation.pdf might help counter some of the lies.

ANTZ propaganda in mainstream media leads to ...
scared ignorant local media & politicians, which leads to ...
local vaping = smoking ordinances, which leads to ...
state legislators climbing on board, which leads to state legislation.

Then you get interstate shipping bans (which go w/ high taxes). Plus your local "Smoke Free Laws" will eventually (if they aren't already) be extended to parks, sidewalks, and multi-unit buildings (even residences). That might happen long after vaping has been defined as smoking. But it'll be too late then, right?

In the meantime, local employers (such as hospitals) start refusing to hire vapers, local businesses ban vaping in their parking lots, & local companies decide to make vapers pay more for health ins. (just as smokers), licenses for brick-&-mortar vape stores are revoked because they're near schools ...

And eventually, you get local and statewide bans on vaping sales to adults.

Think it just can't happen to your town, your county, or your state? Think again: CASAA Local Alerts and CASAA Calls to Action

BTW your vape shop owners are also local businesspeople - more than mere constituents in the eyes of local politicians.

Many brain-dead local ordinances have been stopped (or at least tabled) by organized action on the part of local vapers. Meet w/ your local pols. Write comments on your local media websites in response to these dumb boilerplate stories. Send letters to the editor when your local paper runs an ignorant hit job piece.

And for heavens' sakes, make sure you get a bunch of vapers to that City Council meeting, whenever it occurs.

There's a huge army of ?non-profit?"health" association pain and volunteer workers constantly in the ears of the local health departments spreading ANTZ propaganda. They've now improved their processes to keep their attacks as low profile as possible so regulations are approved before opposition can mobilize.

Most people still believe what they see on the news. Some half cocked study ends up fueling a literal crusade, especially in small towns where people talk.

Agreed (mostly). Not to put too fine a point on it, however ... but I think "small towns" are no different in this regard than anywhere else.

A larger municipality might have slightly more savvy media people, and slightly less credulous denizens. But I wouldn't count on it.

The same thing seems to be happening everywhere - not just here in the states, but all over thet world.

The only exceptions are the countries in which the health authorities just banned PVs outright, after ten minutes of brief discussion before their tea (or coffee) breaks.

And there are plenty of those. It almost happened in the US.
