I've had the ZAP for about a week and thus far I've been using it with the stock configuration: 32 gauge kanthal (I think), 4/5 wrap, 2.2 ohm, 400 SS mesh. The vapor production with 100% VG (Boba's) has been decent, but not head and shoulders above what I am able to achieve with a slotted carto tank. At this point, I'm ready to do a little experimentation with the equipment on hand to see if I can crank up the vapor a bit.
From my research, I'm leaning toward a twisted coil with 7/8 wrap: that should make for a resistance of about 1.76-1.93, if I'm not mistaken. I'll be using a Dremel with attached paper clip for twisting, but I'm not sure whether to go with the ultra-twisted method (shown at Twisting Kanthal Wire For Genesis Style Devices/RBAs - YouTube) - which is basically to twist the wire until it snaps off at the end - or to twist it somewhat less aggressively.
As for the wick, I could either stick with the 400 (thereby changing only one variable at a time), or try the 325. I have heard that 325 might be better when tilting the device (gravitational "wicking"), but 400 is superior for true capillary wicking. However, I do always tilt when using the ZAP, as Zen recommends.
Any input into these choices from more experienced rba users who have attained Choo Choo train levels of vapor would be much appreciated.
