I own a vamo, and i can say it is pretty durable. I've dropped it off the 2nd floor at work with no damage other than a chip on the display. i don't know about the zmax though. The vamo is not a passthrough, but you can have 2 18650 batteries for pretty cheap. They are button top, not flat top. All in all, i feel like it was good money spent on the vamo even though i mainly use mech mods.

It does have 2 "hidden" settings, if you hold the + key for around 15 seconds it will show "NO1" or "NO2" - this is important because when i had it on NO1 or "mean" it hit way too hard i thought. The "NO2" setting is rms setting, and much better i think. Make sure if you get a vamo to check that out.

It really has nothing to do with the draw. At 3.0v (the lowest setting), on the NO1 setting, it's almost like a higher volt setting, in that it hits harder. Seems like it pushes more power, almost burns the juice up. But on the NO2 or rms setting, the same amount of volts set would not hit as hard. Honestly, i set it to NO2 and love it, i never really investigated the reason why

Both of these statements only apply to the previous versions b4 the V3.
The manufacturer has opted not to include these options on the V3, rather rms mode only.

If you get the Vamo, make sure you use it in RMS (N02) mode and adjust in watts for best performance.

I would also throw the Smoktech SID out for consideration with the Vamo and Zmax. They all have similar characteristics, and in fact use the same microprocessor.

The SID is a less-expensive version of the Zmax, but has the same features/functions. With a little bit of shopping around the SID can be had for around $46. Like the Zmax it uses a one-button menu, which some like (I do!), while others prefer the Vamo menu with its auxiliary buttons.

I say look up the smoktech SID. Wife just got one (her vamo was going out on here. It was a v1 and old as snot tho) it has a great display and the one button makes it look sleek. Also I thinner it was 39 bucks so pretty cheap also.

My next mod will be the SID. I have a Vamo and a Smok ZMax and both broke from dropping them. The pressed head broke on the ZMax and broke the wires inside. The Vamo just stopped working. Both are SS and are very heavy. This time I'm going with rubberized aluminum hoping it will hold up better from the drops. Where did you get the SID for 39.00?

Just throwing it out there since you mentioned building your own mods... You can get the vamo and max boards on their own:

Vamo board

Zmax

I built one out of the VV Gripper board, also available at Madvapes. I may end up doing the same with the other boards.
Think this is the way I'm gonna go. Then I can put it in a box mod :D

but now, V2 of the Vamo comes in pretty colors: red, purple, pink and white. Smoketek and Vapor Bank both have them. Look sillier than Vamo V3.

The Sigelei Zmax mini comes in colors. It takes an 18350, but there is supposed to be an extension cap coming out soon.
