Dutch newspaper Het Belang van Limburg reports that the authorities in Belgium have forced the withdrawal of the Ruyan e-cigarette from sale.

The amusingly, and ironically, named FAGG (Federaal Agentschap voor Geneesmiddelen en Gezondheidsproducten), the Belgian federal agency for medicines and health products, forced the removal of the e-cigarette from the market because it contains nicotine and thus falls under their remit.

No approval had been sought by the vendors Densom, who sold 4000 Ruyan units in six months of trading. Densom claimed that they were simply an alternative to cigarettes. "Not so," said An Eeckhout of the FAGG, "as soon as nicotine is an ingredient, it becomes a medicine." She also stated that any new nicotine products must be subjected to rigorous tests and evalutations.
