Background:

On March 21, 2018, the FDA published its advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) regarding flavors in vapor and tobacco products. The FDA is seeking additional information and research on 25 specific topics listed in the ANPRM. Comments are due by June 19, 2018. Stakeholders and other interested parties are encouraged to submit multiple responses addressing these topics individually or the ANPRM as a whole.

Call to Action:

For our first engagement on the FDA’s flavors ANPRM, CASAA is asking our members to provide responses to question 10 under “Additional public health considerations:”

  • Provide studies or information on the impact, whether intended or unintended, of public health efforts by local jurisdictions, States, and members of the international community to impose restrictions on the manufacture, marketing , sale or distribution of all or a subset of tobacco products with flavors (other than tobacco), including but not limited to cigars, ENDS, menthol cigarettes, and smokeless tobacco products.
Rather than suggest that CASAA members provide research on this topic, we are encouraging members to use this comment opportunity as an “adverse event reporting tool.” We regularly hear accounts from our members regarding situations involving smokers who are discouraged from switching to low-risk products by any one of a number of policies and public health campaigns. Please take this opportunity to share those stories with the FDA....
