This is utterly heart breaking.

One of the strongest storms recorded on the planet, 195mph winds and 235mph "gusts"....yes, hard to wrap mind around this.

The prez of philllipines sounds like they had it somewhat together though, a few hundred thousand people were evacuated, and they also had three C-130 cargo aircraft ready, as well as 32 planes and helicopters, etc.

Obviously spawned a few tornados too, along with flash floods and landslides and many people still living in tents from the earthquakes. :(

Indeed our prayers and thoughts are with these people.

Considering that building infrastructure (outside of major urban areas like Manila) tends to be substandard - ie., stick-built shacks with no basement/reinforcement)...one can only imagine what kind of unavoidable destruction awaits.....
Even "going to higher ground" is futile with winds @ 195MPH+....!!
Got to check central core pressure on this monster....Typhoon Tip, IIRC, still holds the record @ 25.17"!!!
I'm betting Halyan's is - or will be - lower!!:(
