So thought I would write this blog to see if there is anyone out there that can relate and to describe the transitions i took to get where i am today. I see alot of people on ECF or in public that jump right into APVs, rebuilding and subohming. With this comes alot of mistakes and injury since there is alot of electronics and power involved.
So here I go……I started vaping around the summer of 2010. My friend and I bought a BLU starter kit which included two auto batteries and some cartridges. Well after about 1 month I started think about how this system worked. All it had was a warming element and a cartridge with juice in it that was covered in foil. When you put the cart on, the foil was punctured as it was placed on warming element (Atty). I started to think instead of buying carts every so often I could just put my own juice in it. So there i started my rebuilding….LOL. I would pull the little cups from the cart and put some juice in it and fill with a mesh to allow the juice to wick and not leak. This worked for awhile and after another month I ventured onto another system. As this was a auto battery I didn’t like how it would come on in my pocket and I didn’t want juice falling into the battery.
So then came the 510 batteries 3 months later. I purchased a little kit that came with two of these which were manual and it also came with a portable charger just like the BLU did. These were cool as they had various attachments with different styles and colors. I got the simple 510 atomizers and cartridges. Well, as these came pretty much built I didn’t like them so started to read on ECF that rebuilding these things can be much better. So from the cotton builds to the mesh filter stuff I started to do this. Did this for quite some time although leakage was an issue if done wrong and not perfect. Filling these were a hassle as I had to put the mesh inside the carto and fill with a needle through the mesh. Then came the almighty “spring mod”. Where you put a spring from a pen in the mesh so when it pressed against the atomizer it would wick the juice better. This works half the time and making a mess.
So with the mess going on, this is when I first starting dripping around the spring of 2011. Dripping directly on the 510 atomizer was great. The flavor was outstanding and the vapor was good. Only thing was I had to carry a bottle of juice with me and had to drip a couple drops every time I wanted to take a puff. I got really good at dripping while driving although this is totally wrong.
About a year later I ventured onto EGO style batteries. These lasted a lot longer and they came with a different type of carto. It was a plastic carto similar to the 510 ones but it had a rubber gasket on the end with a small hole. When pressed against the atomizer it would open the hole up around the heating elements allowing juice to flow into atomizer. Well this was great but still wasn’t vaping like i wanted it to. So then came some more rebuilding. Making the hole bigger was great but again it leaked half the time and became a messy hassle.
