You are going to get a wide variety of opinions, as it all comes down to personal taste. Personally I start with 10% total flavoring and most are good for me at that, some I have to adjust by either mixing down or adding more.

Shaking helps a lot, yes. I shake before every fill. But I would suggest to you to vape unflavored for awhile. I make my own now and don't use any type of sugars or sweeteners because I found almost all commercial juice to be way overloaded with them.

I make several large bottles of PG/VG/nic in advance, over a liter at a time. Then when inclined I put those in small bottles for vaping and add flavor. Then let those smaller bottles steep a month or so before vaping. It's just easier for me to do this way instead of everything all at once...
