Hi,

Pretty much as per title, I can't get anything finer then 28 AWG Stainless wire here in NZ, I'm using 24 AWG Stainless for a core, So I was considering using N80 or Kanthal to wrap claptons as up to 40 AWG is readily available in Kanthal or N80.

I guess its a 3 part question, N80 or Kanthal for the wrap, 32,34,36 or 40 AWG or should I just use the 28 AWG Stainless ?

Thanks,

Sam.

In a Clapton, the core determines more of the performance than the wrap. It is what heats the wrap, so a quick heating core like Stainless will heat up the Nichrome or Kanthal great. I've used Kanthal on all my SS cored Claptons for the last couple months and they work great.

As far as the size of the wire, all will work, the finer the wire, theoretically, the better the flavor so you can take advantage of the increased juice capacity of the coil. It is more about what you are comfortable working with as the smaller gauges can occasionally be difficult to work with for some.

I can't wait to order more wire.
