My mother and i are looking to purchase E-Cigs to try and quit analog cigs. We both smoke about a pack a day. her smokes are about 0.8 - 1.1 mg nicotine and mine are 1.1 - 2.5 mg of nicotine. I was wondering what would be the best choice of E cig to begin with and if possible one that comes with a pcc. Anyone have any ideas for me, could use some help. Not sure of what level of nicotine e-cigs we need with the posted levels of nicotine above either. And we would prefer an E-Cig that doesn't require liquid. All the research i have done have pointed to Green Smoke E cigs but i want somemore opinions.

Thanks

welcome to ecf:) a good starting resource would be to contact vicky at cignot. she is supper nice and can walk you through what kits might be best suited for you. there are many suppliers that will give you good advice as well. you can get a joy510 starter kit or an ego starter kit( bigger battery so you don't have to charge as frequently.) what mg liquid you need will depend on how much you smoke currently. many start around the 18mg range (1.8%).

They all have liquid in them. Some suppliers just pre fill the cartomizers for you (more expensive).
If you insist on cig sized go with a KR808d-1.
If you can handle small cigar shape the Ego or Echo will give you way more battery hours between charges.
I would try a few different nicotine mg strengths, but at a pack a day, I would start with 24mg or 18mg. You're trying to quit smoking so go higher for now. You can lower later.
Welcome, and keep reading around here, there is some excellent info in the starter section.

Welcome to ECF and good luck in quitting. There is a great support community here to help out along the way.

All e-Cigs require liquid but I will assume that you are referring to having pre-filled carts or cartos available instead of filling them yourself. You will definitely get a lot of opinions here as to what is best but always remember that the 'p' in pv stands for personal and you may need to experiment a bit to find what works best for you.

Given that you don't want to mess with liquids (that will likely change) to start and want a pcc I would recommend one of the KR808 D-1 systems like the Bloog, Volt or Halo G-6. All 3 have a good selection of prefilled cartos in various flavors and you can mix and match between them. In other words if you get a volt you can still try out the bloog and Halo cartos on your Volt.

As far as nic levels go your mom would probably be good starting at 12 - 16 mg/ml and 18 - 24 mg/ml strength for yourself.

I would also recommend if you choose one of these that you save your empty cartos in case you decide to start refilling them. It is very easy to do and quite safe.

Good Luck to both of you and Happy vaping!!! :vapor:

if you smoke that much then for slim ecigs I only recommend the 280-320mah ones.

100mah is about 1 hour of moderate vaping

Joye 510 mega xl w/ manual batteries - 280mah, use Boge cartomizers for your favorite thinner juices, This is 128mm long w/ a cartomizer. the PCC is metal and hold one battery (maybe 2 with one charging) and 2-3 other items. This is a 3-piece so there are few prefilled cartomizer other than stock Chinese ones but since 510 is the most popualr threading there are lots of blank cartomizers. With the manuals you can use a drip tip on the atomizer for testing juices. I know FreedomSMokeUSA has some Joye 510 mega xl manual kits.

KR808D-1 standard aka 78mm battery size (not the shorty size) which makes a 120mm ecig w/ a carto. The standard manufacturer model and Vapor4Life model are 280mah, the SmokelessImage Volt model claims 320mah. I recommend the Vapor4Life only because the button of the manual are more normal size. The button of the Volt manual is tiny and recessed and harder to press but the threaded end is more totally sealed. If you wear tight jeans and what to keep the ecig in yoru jeans, maybe you will press the tiny less easily pressed button. I use both. This is a 2-piece so there are lots of prefilled cartomizers (and plenty of blanks). To test juices on a manual battery use a DSE901 atomizer and drip tip.

I vape both. I would day the Joye 510 w/ a Boge carto is a warm moist vapory hit and easier to get a larger amount of vapor (easier airflow). The Vapor4Life is a hotter model (full 3.7v) and with the warmer cartos like Vapor4Life WOW cartos and the Smokeless Image cartos it can pack more throat hit with the same jucie vs the 510. The hit of the KR808D-1 is a hotter, dryer and less vapory hit.

Prefilled is just a small convenience and not even that if you don't like the juice. To be cost-efficient, juice will be added to all cartomizers.

I do not recommend auto batteries with refilled cartomizers. If a cartomizer leaks, it will leak right over where an auto battery can be damaged - right over the hole in the threaded end and behind that is the auto battery's necessary little drag switch. Gunk that up or short it and the battery is probably ruined. Manuals also make it easier to get a good hit.

---

If you are willing to look at fat battery models to get more hours of charge and ability to use the hot LR (low reisstance) atomizers and cartomizers), go to Liberty-Flights.com, press the 20% off, and look at EGo and its popular clone Riva 510 (and the Riva 510s they have are also slightly higher voltage).

Welcome to ECF.

Good advice above. Listen to dormouse in particular as well as the others. There's a learning curve with e-cigs. Take your time, make sure you have everything working well, and then switch. Try some options and flavors.

If cost is a factor at all, I suggest that you reconsider the liquids. They also tend to be better tasting and "fresher" IMHO.

Good Luck!

Most kits come with 24mg liquid. Even though I smoked 2.5 packs a cigarettes a day. It was still way too much. I settled down to 18 mg for the following week. I was a chain smoker and now I am a chain vaper, so I really cut myself down to 8-12mg just so I can chain vape all day. I have a hand to mouth addiction along with a nicotine addiction. I have seen posts on this board where someone just smoked a half a pack a day but needed more mg of nic than someone who had a heavier habit, so it's best to get a range of nic levels and find out what is best for both of you. There is no right or wrong but finding that magical number to keep you off the cigs. Good luck to you and your mom!

I think too much emphasis is put on how much someone smokes as day as opposed to what they smoked a day. If you smoke 3 pad of ultralights you will likely want a lower nic level than someone who smokes 1/2 pad of lucky's. As Xaria pointed out there is more to the addiction than just nicotine which is why conventional nrt's like the gums and patches usually don't work for most people.

+1 for KR808D-1. In my opinion it's a good starting point, pretty good 280mah (or even 320mah) battery compared to other pen-styles, handy cartomizers, minimum hassle.

Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping, Angelreaps, and welcome to ECF!

Said Puffadder,

As Xaria pointed out there is more to the addiction than just nicotine which is why conventional nrt's like the gums and patches usually don't work for most people.

The method of inhaling analogs is different for everyone, too, and that further confounds the ideal nicotine concentration decision for a new vaper. I used to smoke three packs per day of Marlboro Ultralight 100's, and I inhaled them practically down to my toenails. Despite having smoked ultralights, I found that 24 mg./ml. e-liquids were right for me to start with. Someone else could smoke three packs per day of ultralights, but not inhale so deeply, and find that 24 mg./ml. is vastly too strong. It's all so idiosyncratic -- you have to experiment.

The nice thing about nicotine is that your body's reaction tells you if you're getting too much or too little as you vape. If you're getting too little, you'll probably crave analogs something fierce. If you're getting too much, you'll get a case of the whirlies, maybe a but of a headache, a thumping pulse, feel light headed, get nauseous, etc. If this happens, just relax and quit vaping for a bit: the very slight overdose will disappear within an hour or less as your body eliminates the nicotine. Then consider vaping somewhat less, switch to an e-liquid with a lower concentration of nicotine or both.

I've only been vaping for a week. I got some 18mg juice. I don't think it's enough for me. Were I allowed a do-over, I would have gotten the smaller (5ml) bottles in 2 different strengths. Same flavors, just different strengths. That way you can see what works without having taste affect your opinion.

Welcome to the ECF! I echo a) that Greensmoke is crap ;) and b) if you're looking for something small and similar to an analog, go with a kr808d-1. If you don't want to mess with refilling, you can start with an auto or a manual battery. If you want the most similar to analogs right off the bat, stick with an auto, although manuals give a better hit IMHO and if you decide you want to refill your cartos at some point, there's much less chance of wrecking the battery because they're sealed.

Vapor4Life has starter kits that include multiple batteries (your choice of manual or auto), a carrying case, a PCC, and pre-filled cartos in your choice of nic strength and flavor (and they have loads). In my experience, they ship fast and their customer service is awesome (I had a manual battery that became a bit inconsistent and they sent me TWO replacements, which I had in my hands within 48 hours).

Again welcome, and vape on. :)

Can someone wise share how to save this thread rather than my usual cut and paste into my own little Word ecig library? This is a great thread for new vapers. Will save me much 'splainin :p

Boodle, you've been at this longer than I, so forgive me for sounding foolish... But I usually just subscribe to the thread. Then I can go back in my inventory and copy/paste certain portions, or just link the thread.

And one more thing. ;) Figuring out what level of nic is right for you seems to come right down to personal experimentation. My first starter kit came with 18mg cartos, and I had to bump it up to 24mg. I smoked just under half a pack of American Spirit blues (1.8mg nic on average which makes me wonder what you were smoking :)) and I've seen ex-Am Spirit smokers have to bump up to 36mg and stay there for quite some time... Whereas I essentially went through a motion of 18-24-18 and have been going steady with a mix of 11 and 12mg generally and 6mg for my easier days. It shouldn't take long to find what works for you.
