A problem with my ProVari (Top Cap)

So I was working in a data center today, and I was perhaps 14 feet above the data center floor which was a vinyl tile over concrete kind of floor (1/8" thick or so tile laid directly on concrete) so there was not any give to it. I dropped my satin silver ProVari from this height, and down, down, down it fell. It crashed with a thud. When I got to the floor, I picked up my ProVari and the Protank was still intact (quite surprising) and it worked just fine (not particularly surprising).

When I got back to my office, however, I noticed something...it was a bit tilted. A closer look revealed the following condition...

Sorry the pic is a bit blurry...here is one more....

So I got to Provape.com to see what they have to say about it. What do you know, there is a FAQ about this exact condition! Here is the link, if you are interested.

So what do they recommend....

Luckily, the top cap is press fit into the tube and if you want, you can fix it from home. Just stand the ProVari on a hard surface and put a flat piece of wood over the top cap. Then use a hammer to tap the cap back into place. The piece of wood will protect it from getting dents.

Got that? Put it between a couple of pieces of wood and hammer that top cap right on back into place. Okay, I'm game! So I did it. What do you know? It worked. I had to smack it pretty good, but it did go right on back down.

By the way, I removed the battery, and the end cap before doing this. I figured the less strain on the internals the better, and I could see no reason to strain the threads. I don't know if this was necessary, it just seemed like a good idea to me. Whatever.

So here is the result of the repair....

Sure enough, a happy ending. Quite a spill she took, and never missed a beat. I can't even find any cosmetic damage. I love this device!

Wow, very surprised the Protank didn't break. I had one on a Spinner and it took a dive from the kitchen table and wa-la, no more Protank.

Good to know about that end cap fix, though. Nice post, Ed.

I had something like this happen to me but the top came off more and wires were showing. I tried to push it back together to no avail ;(. So did go to the site seen what they had to say. Told myself no way am I gonna try that. Got ahold of provape they had told me to do the same thing. I emailed back told them I was to scared to do that and they were VERY UNDERSTANDING!!! Said don't worry we'll get you fixed up. Sent it back to them and it came back in no time at all looking better then before this had happened. This is one GREAT company you have to love them!!! Thank you for putting all this info up about the provari. v8
