The thing you need to remember about carto tanks is: As long as the tanks doesn't leak, it's all about the cartos and juice, not the tank. Inexpensive tanks will function just as well as the pricier ones. If you have issues with your tanks frosting or cracking, make the switch to polypropylene or glass tanks. I have also found that using cartos in a tank will significantly prolong their life. Also, since the carto is always being fed, the coil stays wet, and you won't have to worry about vaping burnt polyfil.
My personal preference is a Boge standard resistance carto on a VV pv. I have always been a "Boge girl". My tank experience is limited to Smoktech DCTanks cut down to fit my cartos, Liquinators, and Lil Mama tanks. These instructions should be fine for any tank that has secured end caps, not for tanks with grommet ends.
Make sure your carto is properly punched or slotted. The juice needs to get into the carto so you can vape it. I usually punch mine, using a jig and carto punch. You could also use a sharp screw and hammer, but be careful not to cause your carto to be out of round, or it may not seal properly in your tank. Also, don't punch so deeply that you puncture the inner air tube, or you will have a leaky carto. Some folks like to use a saddle valve to punch or a Dremel to slot their cartos. I prefer my method. (I will be posting some links to jig and carto punches soon.) I use 1 hole on each side, and my juice is around 70%pg, 30%vg. You don't need big holes. Smallish holes work beautifully.
I bottom fill my cartos before using it in a tank. Fill the carto condom with about 20 drops or so. Push the carto, connector end first, slowly into the condom. You'll see juice come out the top, that's normal. Blow the juice gently down into the filler from the open end. Squeeze the condom until all of the juice has been sucked into the carto. Remove the condom. Blow into the open end one more time to be sure there is no juice in the center air tube. Put a tissuw or napkin on the other end in case any juice dribbles out.
Put your drip tip on the carto, and push it into your tank, always connector end first to prevent damage to the O rings.
Push the connector end of the carto back into the tank and push it to one side until you see a little area between the tank and the carto. Gently squeeze you juice into that space until the tank is full. Push the carto back up into position. Blow through the drip tip just to make sure there is no juice in the air tube of the carto. Screw it onto your pv. Take 2-3 draws without turning on your pv, just until you can taste your juice. Now you can vape on it normally.
It is normal for the top of the carto filler to look dryish, not to worry. The juice feeds through the little holes on the sides and usually, but not always, can't be seen from the top of the filler. But it keeps the coil nice and wet.
Infrequently, you can run into a carto that just doesn't wick well no matter what you do. Let me know if you have any other questions. This method has been absolutely foolproof for me.
