Coiling Station - Building Coils

This is my 'Coiling Station' setup. A white plastic coated 2mm rod from a Dollar store wire basket is wrapped with wire coils, the 2mm rod is clipped to a magnification stand, the $6.21 SE MZ101B Helping Hands with Magnifying Glass.

I also use Headband Magnifier Glass Lighted Optivisor w/ 5 Lens for Hobby Repair, see eBay:

#1 I wrap 6 and then leave a larger loop to clip for the legs of the coil, pressing them together for a tight coil.

#2 When I need a coil, I clip it apart from the rest, place it over a toothpick as suggested by a friend, and I install it on my topper.

#3 The toothpick keeps the coil shaped without stretching it out. After I get a oHm reading on the coil, I removed the toothpick and put the wick through it.

This AM I installed both fasttech premade coils that range between 1.8 to 2.2oHm

and my own coils, shown here that ranged between 1.4 and 1.8oHm using Fasttech silica and some 32 gauge Kanthal wire. I use Kanthal ribbon wire, 28 gauge wire, 32 gauge wire, silica, braided cotton, and ekowool.
