Seriously? Is this The Bachelorette?

On a smoking cessation forum the other day (not this one), someone expressed being displeased with people who use e-cigarettes for the wrong reasons.

"the wrong reasons?"

Seriously? Is this The Bachelorette?

One trembles to imagine what those reasons might be.

In what benighted horrorverse are there "wrong reasons" for wishing to reduce - even cease - the daily inhalation of toxic substances?

What the person meant, of course, is that he's displeased by people who use e-cigarettes for reasons that do not conform to his beliefs.

Speaking of reasons, I should thank him for such a clear illustration of Reason Number 7,926 that I'm SO glad I found ECF before stumbling into any of the many, many other 79,260 such groups all over the internet.

"Find a support group" was the Number 2 Item on my Smoking Cessation Preparedness List.

I was steeling myself for the task of lurking around dozens of the things for weeks, months, even, but the universe spared me the task by plopping me here before I'd even finished Item Number One, "educate self re: options."

The universe had its reasons, I guess.

I have no doubt that had I been obliged to endure the tedium of all that support group-shopping, I would have seen all kinds of text strings, that while they might be facepalm-inducing for ME, cued up the cones of light and angel choirs for somebody else.

Choosing the support group that's right for you, is, according to my beliefs, one of the single most important elements in any plan to change any behavior, whether it's ceasing to smoke or learning Ancient Icelandic.

It doesn't matter so much whether most of the people in your support group have the same beliefs you have nearly as much as it matters whether they share the same level of tolerance for other peoples' beliefs that you do.

But wait - wasn't I just hurling snark at that wrong reasons-believin' person? What's tolerant about that?

Ahh, this is exactly where we crotchety old ladies are so often misunderstood!

See, if his reasons for ceasing to smoke, ceasing the ingestion of nicotine, or both, are belief-based, no matter how cockamamie those beliefs might seem to me, I have no problem with that.

Nor does it bother me one bit if my beliefs seem to him to be incomprehensible, wacky, or both.

We're not here to support each other in cleaving to a particular creed or doctrine, we're here to help each other change a behavior that, if we're successful, help many of us live to believe another day.

That's the common ground, that's the thing we share, that transcends all this other stuff, and ratchets up how much we care about each other

Even if it's the only thing we share, it's a pretty big one.

So here's today's gibbet of Authentic little old lady advice: Whether your support group preferences are belief-based or sciencynerdy, when you find one where the people are glad you're there, give them a rose. @}}>----

Unbelievable! You do it yet again...you never cease to amaze me. I have tried, haphazardly to describe this exact train of thought to friends, and manage only to mangle it terribly. Oh they got my point, but it was nowhere near as eloquent and to the point as this particular post of yours. Kudos Lolady!! Love, Love Love it! :)

Awesome! Your blogs are such a delight. Has anybody here mentioned that we're glad you're here.........? (LOL)

I did not read the article to which you are referring, so I am not sure; but, perhaps this person was referring to the fact that some people are using E-cigs for the smoking of illegal substances.
I wouldn't have thought of it; however I was talking to the fellow at our mall at the E-cig kiosk.
:mad:I can't believe that he said to me that they were useful for the smoking of an illegal substance!
Is it possible that the people who are using these to smoke illegal substances are putting OUR E-cigs in jeopardy?
Just a thought!
Have a Blessed Day!

I was once one of those people who used vaporizers for both substances, although the types of personal vaporizers are very different. There are only a few. one being the thermovape from innovapor or thermovape or the ioloite that can really be used for both herbal blends and e juice.

Although in Many California Medical MJ dispensaries, the owners have been mixing concentrated Herbal extracts with high amounts of Cannabinoids and mixing/diluting them with Pg/VG in order to make a medical product that is vapable using conventional e cigs. This is few and far between and does not work well and as far as other much worse substances although, while vaping in some of the bad areas of large citys, I have had the odd crackhead ask me what I was taking a "blast" from. I don't think many of those types of users would buy an e cig for that, when a rose containing glass tube can be bought at most stores in those areas for a buck, complete with brillo pad.

It is a sad world we live in.

But I believe in Harm Reduction, which is why I vape, and support Medical MJ users who wish to use there medicine in a healthier way.

And to clairfy I meant I used Herbal Vaporizers as well as E cigs. It was actually while researching for a new herbal vaporizer that I thought, if I was going to spend 200$ to not smoke herbal substances, that I really shouldn't be smoking 20 cigarettes a day and found out about E cigs/Personal Vaporizers. Although I did try to quit tobacco using the old school conventional herbal vaporizers, it is very harsh and I found that I would get a nicotine headache very easily, as one cigarette smoked may give you 1 mg of nicotine, 1 gram of tobbacco can contain up to 60mg of nicotine which can be vaporized efficently through the use of a herbal vaporizer causing nicotine OD.

I also wanted to point out that it is kind of disgusting that when I was a younger kid 17 or so I bought one of those mini roses for my gf thinking that she would think it was cute and was given a piece of brillo pad with it and offered a lighter for 50 cents more.

I wanted to clarify the above comment as I am not supportive of any of those harmful drugs and beleive that harm reduction is almost impossible to accomplish with drugs such as those, aside from safe needle exchanges ect.

Although any mall kiosk man spreading the word of the misuse of e cigs should be warned agaisnt it.

I feel the original OP was reffering to people who only use e cigs to bypass indoor smoking bylaws and only use them in between times that they cannot smoke.
