Diacetyl (butter/popcorn flavoring) - don't vape it.

You might know this already, but just in case you don't (you said you were new to vaping). From wherever you order check that they guaranty all of their flavors are diacetyl free. Diacetyl is used for a buttery/popcorn flavors and when vaporized at high temps and inhaled it, it can cause popcorn lung/Bronchiolitis obliterans which is not curable without a lung transplant. Anyways I know it use to be in some buttery flavored e-juice and should not be in any anymore. Any reputable places juices is likely ok. Just it is good to check or stay away from buttery flavors if you are really concerned.

Also if you do do DIY juices as someone else suggested, Lorann flavors, which most people use as flavoring is Diacetyl free or so the site sight says. Lots of people use it and I have yet to hear of any issues.

Good luck with finding a flavor you like.

So ran into this post today while browsing threads. Didn't know this and it's a great warning to heed. Thanks to cosmopaladin for bringing this to my attention.

OH, and what I found most interesting when I did some additional research on the topic:

Diacetyl is approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a safe flavor ingredient, but there is evidence to suggest that inhalation in large amounts is dangerous. There are currently no warnings from federal regulators about diacetyl.

I'm loosing more and more trust in the FDA everyday.

Some people who worked in the plants producing microwave popcorn were injured and/or died. You should avoid breathing in vapor from your buttery flavored microwave popcorn too. You'd have to be out of your mind (stupid) to sell it in a product intended to be vaporized and inhaled.

There are plenty of warnings from federal regulators. Also numerous studies and even some bills put into legislation in some states. The FDA says it's safe for ingestion, not inhalation;)

Replacements for diacetyl are just as bad (since they're chemically almost identical to diacetyl). Where they differ is in the fact that they are less water soluble and can therefore more easily get deeper into the lungs. Not sure how much that affects us since we bypass our upper respiratory system through vaping anyway.

The guy that got the disease from microwaving popcorn was a highly unique case. He was an addict who popped several bags a day for over a decade. He went out of his way to inhale as much of the vapor as he could as soon as he could and it was always an "extra buttery" popcorn. His kitchen was said to have airborne concentrations similar to a popcorn factory. The guy was practically huffing straight diacetyl.

I wish the stuff wasn't so harmful... cuz it makes for a delicious vape... too bad. Bye bye vaping nirvana, hello simple contentment:unsure:
