Get it (cheap) while you can!

A bit of math.

Until I started vaping, I smoked 1.25 packs daily of a premium brand costing over $8/pack. Half of that at least -- $4 -- went to pay taxes. So government was collecting $1,824 from me annually for just this one item.

Now, I haven't given up analogs completely. I still have maybe 5 analogs a day. So I am still paying the government $365 annually in taxes.

But they have lost $1,460.

And that is just from me.

Look at all the suppliers in the suppliers section. Look at all the continuing innovation. Look at the places specializing just in e-liquid. And, just as an aside, there are plenty of suppliers who aren't even listed there. This isn't being fueled by a tiny market. To fuel that kind of interest, there have to be a LOT of people buying and using e-cigarettes, e-liquids, accessories, etc.

Which means that government is losing $BILLIONS$ in revenue.

In terms of income taxes, wealthy people are not really taxed because assets aren't taxed -- income is. And if that income is filtered through a trust, corporation or whatnot it is effectively untaxed because expenses (such as limos, accountants and yachts) get deducted first. Poor people do not pay substantive income taxes because you can't get blood out of a stone. And the remaining people with incomes from $40k to $250k effectively shoulder what is already a combined tax burden that for some members of that group amount to half of their income. And that doesn't count the property taxes and sales taxes they pay.

In the midst of what is really a horrendous economy anyway, laying even more income taxes on that group earning between $40k and $250k is not very politically feasible.

So where is government going to make up that shortfall of $billions$ missing from its coffers due to people switching to e-cigarettes? Is it going to lay off the Senior Assistant Deputy Director of Public Relations who is a state senator's second cousin twice removed? Not likely. Patronage is power.

Instead, that money is going to come from e-cigarettes, e-liquids and the like. Most likely from e-liquids. And in the end, the taxes on e-liquids will make using them just as expensive as smoking analogs.

So I say you should get your juices cheaply while you can.

For pre-made juices, there is a limited shelf life of about two years. But the reality is that high-quality raw materials such as PG and stable nicotine solutions will keep for years.

So I respectfully suggest stocking up now to avoid extreme price hikes in the future.

They say that 1ml of e-liquid is equivalent to about a pack of cigarettes. I don't think that is quite true, I think it is closer to 1.7ml. Even so, can you imagine a tax of $4 per ml of e-liquid? Instead of paying $15 for a 30ml bottle you'd be paying $135.

Now, your first line of defense is to stock up.

But there is a second line of defense too.

That second line of defense is involving as many people in vaping as possible. By doing that you build a natural constituency -- a special interest group -- that would oppose such taxes.

In this way, government could be forced through practical concerns of re-election to direct its need for tribute elsewhere.

So being an e-smoking evangelist is a good thing too.
