Modding adventures #1

Well, I got a free flashlight with my last madvapes order and I was making that into a nice small USB pass through, but unfortunately I am 20 years out of practice with the soldering iron and I was not paying attention to the entire length of the iron. I am sure this has happened to a lot of others before, but I managed to melt the crap out the flashlight casing while heating a component for soldering. Ruined it. Tried to rebuild a section I dremeled off with epoxy but that just made a worst mess than ever. I ended up removing everything and reinstalling it all in the only container I had available to me. A harmonica case. It is a nice 4" x 1.5" x 1" plastic case, and I had to tape it all closed as it was hinged but the very minor clasp on the front would not stay shut. The bottom line though, is that my 5 volt pass through works great. I used a 5v 5a switch, a 7805 regulator just to be on the safe side. It has a 510 connector and a nice slow color changing LED on it. I will post a picture of it. I have been calling it the Ugly Bug because it is just .... ugly. It is my first mod though, which makes it sentimentally important to me. In which case I refer to it as the black dragon, but I can't help but think I should refer to it as the black draggin' for some reason.

I ordered some more parts including a 3AA batt box with a built in switch I can use for a master. I also ordered a PCB hole board, another 7805, 4 14500 batts (going for a portable 5v box this time) another 510 connector, LED/resistor. It will be a very basic 5v box. Not sure about the 7805 though as the 3 pin regulator has a fairly high drop out voltage, and I want it to last at least a little while between charges. I ordered a LP2950-50LPRE3 regulator from Texas Instruments as a sample, and I will see how much batt life I can get out of that sucker. Once I have the mod regulated and working/tested safely for a while, I am going to MOD the MOD or get the stuff for another one and since it is in a 3AA box I should have room to build a juice feeder into it as well. I am not doing a bottom feeder though. These 510 atty's/carto's leak too much juice as it is and I don't want any juice getting down inside this mod at all. I plan on making multiple mods once I have the juice feeder working along with everything else. Then I will give some away, and prize some in the forum somehow and who knows maybe I'll craigslist a few just to try and recupe some of the expenses of the modding.

Most importantly, I am having fun and re-learning all of my old electronics knowledge.

I am building up a good parts supply as well. I have ripped apart every piece of broken electronics in the house, and even a few things I have found thrown away like a few phones and a nice VCR that yielded up a bunch of switches, LED's, resistors, 2 regulators I have to spec out and a bunch of miscellaneous rods and parts that I am sure will come in handy at some point. Like some side mountable RCA jack's that will help me should I decide to make some multi-adapter mod's for those who like to have various atty's in use.

I had some dead batt's and att's supposed to be coming my way from someone in the forums but the package never made it to me. I don't know if someone snagged the package off my doorstep or what. BUT, I am now still awaiting more parts. If anyone has any dead batt's or att's or ANYTHING e-cig related they just want to unload, please feel free to mail it to me and I will see what I can make of it!

PM me for my address if you want to donate to my modding adventures.

Sorry I never replied to this CCJ, No one ever seems to comment on my blog and I got lazy with checking!

Since this time I have made one bottom feeder that failed miserably and was converted into a standard box mod, and I made a really cool overhead feeder that used this strange plastic Y-shaped thing which was pure luck on my part as it was just the right size for my drip tip, and the other part of the Y held one of the mister bottles (the middle sized one from MadVapes) and I enlarged the center hole from one of the plastic discs out of a 510 cartridge, and set it up so that when I pushed down on the mister bottle it would spray about an exact 2 drops down into the atty each time. That was a little odd looking, and the pump bottle was either making you cross eyed or scratching your chin. LOL. The Y thingy ended up breaking when I dropped it though, and I do not know what it was or where to get more and none of the hardware store guys had any idea at all. I would make another one if I find something to use. I found the thing in my cellar in a pile of debris near the electric box that was replaced a couple of years back so I think it is something to do with electrical wiring. It was a grey thin plastic circle, and there were three small tubes on it, two facing at each other and a third that sort of went off at a 45 degree angle, which was perfect because I got the pump pointed straight into the atty, and the drip tip went into the angled tube because I never had to take the drip tip off to drip thanks to the mister pump bottle.

I am going to make one of your big bottles though, and I am going to make one of those Genesis mods that are truly awesome.
