Troubleshooting -

identifying a loose wick-

Troubleshooting - low density.

Slow day, I'll post my last wick that I finally pulled Friday due to low density. I was going to post a week ago but wrote the post and then lost it before I posted it.

Even though it was too light, I was able to use it for 10 days before I had time to redo it. Only issue was I couldn't run the wick dry and had to make sure it stayed pretty wet or it would lean to dry hit. But like I said I was able to vape my normal for 10days ~50ml

New - not dense enough, even though to a new user it would look good. *If it looked like this after a day it would be good..

Next day you can see already that it's too loose.

After 10 days. ~50ml with a slightly loose wick, see how high the coil is above the wick.

How to tell if your wick is loose, not enough density, trouble shooting,

Some concern of dioxin has been raise based on tampons. The fda has cleared this, and the dioxin scare would apply to both rayon and cotton. But that type of processing of cotton and rayon has ceased many many years ago. Levels of dioxin in rayon are at or below minimum levels of .01- 1 part per Trillion.

Response to vaper place rayon segment

Ok guys just listened to this podcast.. Thanks for posting it, was it one of us that sent it to him?

Start at 34 min for the 1/2hr rayon segment.

Vapers Place - Show Schedule and Replays

It's a show called Click Bang on vapers place. I have a couple things I want to talk about in regards to their discussion.

It was actually an excellent review for rayon. They discussed some of its amazing properties. They even went to say that cotton is out and rayon is in... they see no reason to ever go back. :) it's the next revolution in vaping essentially.

Glad you like it guys! You should hit me up if you have any questions.

On to the show I would like to add some things to the discussion. And also now I really see the need to get all the info together soon..

This thread was started less than 2 months ago. It didn't take off till 5/26 one month ago. I know it seems like a long time by the number of posts.
The thread and rayon use by me was started with pharmaceutical grade rayon (it has no flavor to it no matter what)... I got massive backlash in the community as expected. So I came out and said tencel is produced with a environmentally friendly process. And ...We could find a source for it and the product is top or a straight continuous strand. That phase lasted for about a week! Then the cellucotton rayon was found at Sally's. Brian got it and said it was good... We had a readily available source and we started going bonkers.

The flavor difference is because it's like your drinking it not burning it. And the proof is in your coil. Pure juice no burning so the flavor profile is different.

Rayon is produced with chemical reactions to and end product of regenerated cellulose(cell OH) it comes out as cellulose with salts attached to the molecule. (Cell OH+na2So4) it's then washed to remove the salts to reach pure regenerated cellulose (cell OH) the amount of rinsing to achieve pure regen cellulose is the difference in the grades.

Rayon should burn to a light ash. It burns faster than cotton when dry because its oxegen and hydrogen bonds are broken. If you let it burn out it will be ash

You guys mentioned an off taste... It could be the way your wicking it because it actually took me a little while to figure it out as no one rlse had ever used it... Rayon actually gets smaller as all the air is forced out and replaced by juice and the fibers come together. So it may have been too tight and then shrank down to and acceptable contact pressure... Your probably using slightly too much. But anyway, boiling can improve the taste if your getting a taste from Sallys CCr. For one it is not as pure as the pharma and medical balls. Brain confirmed this by tasting them and the medi balls were neutral and the Sally's tasted somewhat papery. Also I gotta wonder with it being in the same store as perm solution because that stuff reeks. So also due to different storage factors washing may help. It's a fact that the medi grade is more pure with a very neutral taste of Nothing. This is what I used originally.. And with that you don't have to worry about the variables that could be involved.

This is how i do my through coil builds - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...491421.html?highlight=Commentary#post13491421

Will have to listen again and see what else.

So you started using rayon and now you think there's a problem with it because you have a sore throat, tightness in chest, racing heart beat, headache, or some other reaction.

These reactions are caused by the highly effective vapor. The most common is nicotine overdose. Causing all the symptoms above. By installing a proper rayon wick you just raised your nicotine absorption by 30%!!! That's like going from 12mg to 18mg!!
- a 25-30% reduction of nicotine concentration is recommended.

Ever been to a cloud comp or remember when you first started vaping?
The vapor is so different and all the components are heightened that it take a few days for your body to adjust. Any potential issues with juice ingredients will be increased by 25-30%. For Instance if your slightly bothered by pg or other flavoring components - this will increase that by 25%.

A sore/ dry throat can occurs from low density allowing to coil to overheat producing a dry burnt vapor.

Here is a test I did to see if it made my throat sore continuing to run a loose wick.

I purposely ran some wicks loose and tight to see results and also a 3 wrap coil I havent done in years. I was also able to replicate a sore throat problem some has mentioned. It reminded me of a sore throat I got when I started vaping and the coil would be loose on the silica. I believe the reason for the sore throat problem with silica is when The coil overheats and the vapor is dry and irritating because it's too loose on the silica too loose on rayon same thing.

I ran the loose wick at 6v for 4 days and it did end up giving me a irritated throat. If I would have went lower with the power it wouldn't have been as bad. But it did vape good enough for me to use it occasionally noticing a dryish hit but not a lot. Wasn't able to run te wick as dry either due to poor contact.

8/10 wick here turned out loose ,

After a very short time 1 hr I could tell the wick was darkening. This was due to the coil overheating and cooking the juice. Leaving the caramelized juice on the wick. This doesn't happen with normal density.

Of you look at the wick you may think it doesn't look bad from this angle..

But a nudge of the wick exposes this Gap at the end of the coil.

Before taking it out due to a sore throat. And poor performance all along.

While this was working ok enough to use for 3-4 days the Results were not good. Flavor was muted and it was a dry vapor. Occasional hot hits. Wasn't able to drain the rayon..

Rewicked it with a super tight wick that deformed the heck out of the coil had to hold the coil while pulling through and straighten it out afterwards. The results were better than loose wick. Had a little lining taste in the beginning. Doesn't wick as well as proper density. Flavor a little muted. After a while the wick got a little smaller and I've been vaping away on it good enough. No Ill effects.

Much less darkening of the wick juice. Still more darkening than the proper density. Flavor not as good either. But usable at 1.8 ohm 6v. A little more finesse to keep the wicks wetter. They don't dry out completely like proper density before you get to dry hit warning. You can see that there is a decent shoulder on the wick close to the coil. Instead of flush and gently widening as you get father from the coil.

This wick and coil I'm still vaping on right now and it's actually pretty good. Too tight you will notice a break in time. It gets much better as the wick shrinks. A sign of too tight a wick, but still performed pretty great after break in.. Can't drain the wicks till they look dry though till you hit the density sweet spot.

Overall wick density makes a big difference. You do not get the performance we rave about until you nail the density. That takes it to a whole nother level. I think I'm done experimenting with poor builds and will recoil and go for 100ml again..

Too tight, too loose, trouble shooting, good bad examples.
