This works with the vivinova heads as well.
What you'll need...
An old replacement head. Plus....
In my attempt to be thorough without pictures, it may appear to be more difficult than it really is.
When you've done it once successfully I'm confident you'll be both satisfied with the results and pleased with yourself for improving the performance and longevity of your Stardust head. Cheers!
What you'll need...
An old replacement head. Plus....
- 1mm. and/or 3mm. Cotton wicking material(1mm.string or 3mm. yarn)
- Three to four inches of kanthal or nichrome wire, or similar
(for threading the cotton through the coil) - Electronic screwdriver set
(usually a dollar or so at the dollar store or a bit more at a hardware store) - Ohm meter or APV to check resistance.
- Optional desk lamp with built in magnifier.
(for those of us with less than 20/20 vision)
- First step, rinse, take apart and dry everything off.
- Put head back on center post.
- If you have long wicks trim one side with scissors.
- Gently pull one strand of silica out of the coil
- The rest should come out easily using an unscrewing motion.
- Using the 1.4mm. Electronic screwdriver (and magnifier), gently insert it through the center of the coil to ensure the way is clear for re-wicking.
- Check ohms via ohmmeter or APV.
- If it meters good attach to a battery and dryburn. It won't take much so use a lower voltage to start. Once done, take it off the battery.
- Fold your wire in half(for threading the wick through the coil) and twist the ends together.
- Cut 2 to 3 inches of new cotton wick. This needs to be folded in half(doubled over the wire) and needs to total between 1mm and 1.5mm in diameter. So you'll want ½ to ¾ mm. I use ¾mm
- EDIT. 2mm works best imo.
- Thread the cotton through the loop in the wire so it's of equal length on either side.
- Carefully twist/push the wire through the coil.
- Once you can grab the end of the wire from the other side, gently pull and twist the cotton into and through the coil halfway. You may need to move the coil back to keep it from touching the side of the head assembly.
- Drip some PG/VG onto the coil and soak the rest of the wick.
- Fluff the wick near the coil and replace the rubber cap tightly.
- Check the resistance again.
- If it's good put everything back together top up with juice. Your good to go.
- Start at a fairly low voltage and work your way up to your desired voltage.
In my attempt to be thorough without pictures, it may appear to be more difficult than it really is.
