RocketPuppy's DIY process...

Everyone has their own way of doing things. This just happens to be mine.

NICOTINE STORAGE & DILUTION

I ...

  • purchase 100mg nic because it's more cost effective, but the same method ca be applied to any strength.
  • dilute it to 50mg to make it easier to handle.
  • use 8 or 4 oz amber glass bottles from Packing Options Direct with black phenolic screw cap/PE cone liner.
  • use a funnel and add the desired pg to as many bottles needed, and then I add the nicotine, using gloves and eye protection.
  • use a scale, but if you're not, use syringes/beaker to measure.
  • fill the bottles with as little room for air as possible, close them securely, place then in a freezer bag (in case of spillage), and place them in the freezer.
  • keep one bottle out at a time and take a new one out as it gets low.

Do not use nicotine mix straight from the freezer. Let it come to room temperature.

TESTERS

* When I first began diy, I made a bunch of recipes, and there was something in each that I didn’t like. I ended up throwing out way too much, so now I test each flavor.

* Keep in mind that sample batches will not give you the exact overall feel/taste/th/etc. However, it will give you an idea as to whether you like it or not and whether it’s worth making a complete batch.

I ...

  • use 5ml/10ml plastic bottles to make little testers of each flavor to see that 1) I like it, and 2) at what percentage I like it.
  • start by adding a/few drop(s) of flavor to a ml of pg/vg and go up from there to find the best percentage.
  • use a scale, so instead of calculating how many drops per ml, I just note the gram measurement. *

  • first drip them without nic, so if I don’t like the flavor, I haven’t lost too much.
  • have a spread sheet on my computer with every flavor and the percentage at which I like each flavor.

* If you don't have a scale, first find out drops per ml. The average is 20-25, but it definitely varies depending on dropper size.

NEW RECIPES

I ...

  • do almost the same as with testers.
  • make up 3ml testers without nic.
  • make larger quantities in glass bottles with nic if I like it.

THE NITTY GRITTY

  • I first consult e-Liquid Recipes. I prefer this calculator over others because once you make an account, you're able to set preferences to grams and it works on both PC and Mac. The site allows people to save recipes, public or private, have a like list of other people's recipes, let's you customize other people's recipes, and it even let's you look up recipes by flavor. However, if you have a PC, these one comes highly recommended: eJuice Me Up.
  • Once I have the calculations I want, I keep my computer close to my mixing station so I can easily refer back to it for the specifics.
  • On blue painters tape, I mark the recipe name, the nic %, and tag it on the bottle. I use the same pg/vg ratio, so I don’t mark for that.
  • I put the bottle on the scale with a glass funnel and tare it out. I first add my flavors, because if I mess up on this step, I’m not throwing out a ton of other stuff, and it’s okay if my pg/vg/nic percentages aren’t perfect. The flavor percentages for me are the important part. For each flavor, I tare out the scale and add till done.
  • I recently bought little droppers for all my flavors that didn't already come with them, so luckily I don't need to measure anything with syringes.
  • I found that syringes were a pain because I had to squint my eyes to see the markings and it often took awhile to plunge and de-plunge to get the perfect amount. * However, the same process can be done with syringes.
  • I tare the scale and add the vg and pg. For larger quantities, I pour from the larger bottles until I get close, and then I have a smaller dropper bottle to get to the exact gram. I cap the bottle and go through each bottle like this till done.
  • I put away all the ingredients and grab the nic. I tare out the scale, pour in the necessary nic, close the bottle, and shake, shake, shake.
  • I throw the bottles in a freezer bag, heat some water, and throw the bottles and heated water into the slow cooker for a few hours.
  • I clean the glass funnel with soapy hot water, and I’m done.

Note to readers: I don’t actually throw anything. I move bottles around very gently and sing them Elvis songs.
