This is for V3 units but may loosely apply for earlier versions also...
Found that after the unit got torqued a bit, in my pocket, I noticed that the center post
was no longer lining up nicely with the drip tip. I discovered that replacing the tube
was the remedy for this but on further inspection of the "problem" tube I observed
an uneven gap at the base of the tube, between the metal ring and the indent in the polycarbonate tube. (tube only, not the knurled base)
I had retired 2 tubes due to the off-center post and some leaking around the base of the tube. So I grabbed them both and on a hard flat surface I pressed down firmly,
pushing down from the top of the tube. With a little effort one "clicked" back into place while the second one did not click.
They are now both centered around the post and neither of them leak any more.
Glad I didn't just pitch them in the trash the first sign of trouble.
Now I've got more good back-ups than I thought I had.
Got an old tube that leaked or was "crooked"?
Give it a try!
