the last entry here, i was still mired in indecision. then i had a great thing opportunity present itself. one of the major distributors has offered to exchange merchandise for my freelance writing skills. so essentially, my mind was made up FOR me. talk about convenient. i did not have to arbitrarily select a model. i wrote a couple pieces, and in return received a starter kit.
coincidentally, a super generous ECF member offered to send me a spare starter kit they were no longer using. that was mind blowing. i do nice things for people all the time, but i don't get much back in return, nor do i expect it. so this was a surprise beyond my imagination.
so suddenly i had a KR808D1 and a 510 to play with. wow!
the KR808 starter kit came with a PCC, and that's pretty much all it took for me to take a preference of one over the other. i eventually decided that it is the line i'm going to stay with, so i have since forwarded the 510 kit to another person who is trying to quit smoking and start vaping. a friend had an NPro kit, and it was enough to get him interested in e-cigs, but he's reported that the 510 i gave him is such a step up in quality that he's re-committed to using e-cigs to replace regular cigs. SCORE!
it was cool to try the 510, which had 3-piece and two piece components. i was able to try "dripping", and if i was the type to sit in a favorite 'easy chair' and have little accessories next to me while i watched the toob for hours, then i might think this was the way to go. dripping to the 510 atty was very easy, and convenient with the little 5pk of flavor samples i got from blue mist.
but, after trying 4 different cartomizer samplers, and a half dozen other juices from the bottle, i'm down to the first flavor i tried, and the reason i'm vaping at all. my only juice is clove. i'm using Tasty Vapor's Kretek to refill all of my clove prefilled cartos.
the KR808 lends to a very simple process, and ideally this is the way to go. unfortunately, ideal isn't where vaping technology is yet. with the PCC, i can carry two cartos and a battery, and that's enough to hold me for a day. or rather, it would, if i didn't feel that flavor tapers off too quickly. but the idea of just using cartomizers, screwing them on and off, is so much easier than dealing with little bottles of sticky drippy fluid.
i have been emptying my cartos of their prefill, because that juice is just too harsh. i've been mixing the prefill juice with the Kretek juice, which is much easier to vape. so i'm still going thru the ordeal of refill sessions. it's messy, and time consuming. but when i'm in the mood, i'll sit down and spend a couple hours doing it. i'd prefer not to, but until i find prefills that don't taste so bad, this is what i'll have to do.
so, yeah, i did it! i have an e-cig, and i like it. it's a KR808, the leader of two-piece design. the quality of this manufacturer's parts is awesome. i don't know if they're all made equally sturdy, but it is definitely more substantial than the 510 i had. i prefer the metal (rather than plastic) parts. it looks more "high-end". i feel i have a premium model, rather than a generic.
i've established a routine. i buy a couple boxes of cartomizers, remove the prefill juice, then mix it with my other juice and refill my cartos with a syringe. i'll build a week's worth of cartos, stick them in the fridge, and put daily used cartos in a box to refill next time.
the PCC is the bomb. i actually have like 6 batteries now. one of each type it seems. but i really only use one at a time, because either the PCC is caring for it when i'm mobile, or they're on the charger overnight. i haven't had a single issue of lack of power keeping me from vaping.
if i could make any improvements to my setup, i'd like to have a PCC which holds more stuff. two batts and 4 cartos should be the minimum.
i also wish i could improve the flavor and consistency of cartos. i doubt i can. unless i'm prepared to go gung-ho DIY flavor mixing, which i'm not. i don't want a messy hobby, i want an enjoyable and simple little fix. hopefully the future of e-cigs will continue to evolve, and the bugs will continue to be corrected. so far, i think it's brilliant. i sent an email to my coworkers advising them of what the minimum they'd need to try e-cigs. maybe someone else will try it. if i can contribute to anyone's quitting of cigs, then that's a good deed worth doing.
