Only other dual squonker I have to compare with is the old Dripbox 160, which quit working long ago. It's about the same size in total, if I recall correctly.

Box cutter shaves them right off. I have found that doing this not only allows you to remove the base more easily, it keeps the base from cracking from the constant prying off from the pod to refill.
